UP Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh blocks Rahul Gandhi’s convoy in Raebareli, seeks apology for insult to PM Modi’s mother

Political tensions rose on Wednesday when Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh, accompanied by BJP supporters, staged a protest on the Kathwara highway, calling for an apology from Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The demonstration took place during Gandhi’s two-day visit to Raebareli, where Singh tried to stop his convoy.

The minister alleged that Gandhi did not condemn abusive remarks reportedly directed at Modi’s mother during the Congress Vote Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, Bihar. Singh and his supporters sat on a dharna along the highway, displaying placards with slogans like Rahul, return home and apologize to the countries mothers. He also stated that Gandhi took an alternate route to reach Harchandpur, avoiding confrontation with the protesters.

Singh told reporters that Gandhi, having a mother of his own, should not permit anyone to insult another person’s mother. He added that instead of condemning such behaviour, Gandhi appeared to be encouraging it. The minister further demanded that Gandhi express regret, take disciplinary action against those responsible, and assure the public that such language would not be tolerated.

The controversy originated from a viral video showing a 25-year-old Darbhanga resident using abusive language at a local event hosted by a Congress leader. The organizer clarified that no senior party functionary was present. The individual seen making the remarks has since been arrested.

The issue quickly escalated into a political flashpoint, sparking clashes between BJP and Congress workers, including physical altercations at the Congress state headquarters.

Modi also responded firmly to the incident, conveying his personal distress over the remarks. He noted that his late mother had no involvement in politics and questioned why she was subjected to such abuse. Modi added that while he might forgive the perpetrators once, the people of the country would never tolerate insults to mothers and sisters. He further emphasized that it was the responsibility of every son of Bihar to hold the RJD-Congress alliance accountable.

With emotions running high, the incident has intensified political rivalry between BJP and Congress, particularly in the politically significant Raebareli constituency, which Gandhi currently represents.

Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region continued to experience relief from the usual June heat as rainfall and cloudy conditions kept temperatures below seasonal averages.

According to weather forecasts, the national capital witnessed pleasant conditions with temperatures remaining lower than what is typically recorded during this time of the year. Intermittent rain, thunderstorms and cloud cover have contributed to the cooler weather pattern seen over the past several days.

More rain likely in coming days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that rain and thunderstorm activity may continue across Delhi-NCR. Weather experts expect partly cloudy skies during the day, with chances of showers and thunderstorms developing later, helping maintain relatively comfortable temperatures.

The recent spell of rain follows a series of weather disturbances that have affected northwestern India, bringing strong winds, thunderstorms and rainfall to the region. These conditions have significantly reduced daytime temperatures compared to the intense heat experienced earlier this month.

Rainfall offers respite from summer heat

The cooler weather has provided much-needed relief to residents after weeks of high temperatures. In recent days, several parts of Delhi-NCR have recorded temperatures below normal, while rainfall has also helped improve outdoor conditions.

Weather officials have advised people to remain alert during thunderstorm activity, as strong winds and lightning may accompany some of the rain spells.

With forecasts suggesting additional showers over the next few days, Delhi is expected to continue experiencing comparatively mild weather for June.

Delhi records coolest day of June as rain brings relief from heat

Heavy rain and cloudy conditions helped Delhi record its coolest day of June, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting further relief from heat in the coming days.

Delhi experienced a significant break from the intense summer heat after rainfall and cloudy skies pushed temperatures down, making it the coolest day of June so far.

The change in weather brought much-needed relief to residents who had been dealing with high temperatures and humid conditions over the past several weeks. Rainfall was reported in several parts of the national capital and adjoining NCR regions, leading to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures. Similar weather conditions have recently helped keep temperatures below normal across the city.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the combination of rain-bearing systems and cloud cover contributed to the cooler conditions. The weather department has indicated that pleasant weather is likely to continue, with chances of additional rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days.

The rainfall not only lowered temperatures but also improved outdoor conditions after a prolonged spell of heat. Earlier this month, Delhi had experienced episodes of extreme weather, including heatwave conditions and dust storms, making the recent spell of rain a welcome change for residents.

IMD’s latest forecast suggests that while temperatures may gradually rise later in the week, intermittent rain and thunderstorms could continue to provide temporary relief from the summer heat.

Weather officials have advised people to stay updated on local forecasts as changing weather conditions could bring brief spells of rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms across Delhi-NCR.
