[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]India’s Cricket captain Virat Kohli on Tuesday (Oct 22) said he hasn’t had any conversation with Sourav Ganguly with regards to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s international future and believes that the BCCI’s President-elect will get in touch with him when he needs to.

Dhoni, who is on a sabbatical from international cricket, is not expected to play against Bangladesh in the upcoming T20 series.

He dropped in to meet the Indian team members and Kohli jokingly told journalists to come to the change room and say “hello” to the former skipper.

After being nominated as the BCCI’s President-elect, Ganguly had said that he would like to speak to the selectors as well as Dhoni to know what they had in mind.

“I congratulated him (Ganguly). It’s great that he has become BCCI President. But he’s not spoken to me about that (MS) yet. He will get in touch with me when he has to. I am sure I will go and meet him when he tells me to,” the Indian skipper said at the post-match press conference.

In fact, Ganguly on Monday said that he will speak to Kohli on October 24 as he believes that the decision to opt out of the Bangladesh T20 series, which starts November 3, rests with the Indian captain.

“I will meet him (Kohli) just like a BCCI president meets the Indian captain. It’s up to him to decide if he wants rest,” Ganguly told reporters.

IPL 2025: Sanju Samson fined Rs 24 lakh for Rajasthan Royal’s slow over rate

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined Rs 24 lakh following his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL 2025 match against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday. It was a challenging game for RR, as they suffered a significant 58-run defeat and were completely outperformed by GT.

This penalty stems from a breach of the IPL code of conduct and marks the second instance of slow over-rate for RR in this year’s tournament. Previously, after a match against Chennai Super Kings, stand-in captain Riyan Parag was fined Rs 12 lakh. According to an IPL media release, “The remaining members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will face either a fine of Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lower.”

In the aftermath of the defeat, Samson acknowledged his team’s failure to capitalize on critical moments during their 58-run loss at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Chasing a challenging target of 218, RR was dismissed for 159 in 19.2 overs, with Gujarat’s bowlers effectively dismantling their batting order.

Reflecting on the loss, Samson pointed out execution errors on both sides of the game. “We gave away an extra 15-20 runs while bowling,” he remarked, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. “We lost wickets at crucial moments when we needed to build momentum. With Hettie [Shimron Hetmyer] at the crease, we were able to score runs, but after I lost my wicket, that marked the turning point in the game.”

Samson contributed a notable 41 runs from 28 balls, including four fours and two sixes. He and Riyan Parag forged a 48-run partnership that offered a glimmer of hope before a collapse followed due to Gujarat’s organized bowling.

The RR skipper praised Jofra Archer for his strong bowling performance. “Jofra got us off to a great start by taking Shubman’s wicket. However, we deviated from our game plan. While we had a plan in place, we didn’t execute it effectively. We will need to assess that tomorrow,” Samson explained.

The Royals have performed well while batting first this season, yet concerns have arisen regarding their ability to successfully chase high targets under pressure. Samson acknowledged this debate but emphasized the team’s ambition to become a versatile unit. “When we lose, we do question ourselves about our chase strategies and consider alternative approaches,” he reflected. “Our goal is to be a team that succeeds in chasing, not just one that wins by batting first.”

As the Royals face a crucial phase of reflection, they aim to rebound and regain momentum in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Digvesh Rathi new celebration

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi made headlines not just for his performance but also for his new celebration during the IPL 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The young wrist spinner struck in his very first over, dismissing none other than his childhood idol Sunil Narine, who had looked dangerous with 30 off 13 balls. Rathi had Narine caught at long off, a key moment in KKR’s massive 239-run chase.

Following the dismissal, Rathi unveiled a new signature celebration, making a writing gesture on the ground, a move believed to be a subtle response to recent sanctions imposed by the IPL governing council.

Though details of the earlier sanction haven’t been officially disclosed, sources suggest it was linked to on-field conduct or celebration style, prompting Rathi to modify his post-wicket reactions this season.

Rathi’s early breakthrough added to LSG’s strong defense of their massive total, and his composed performance under pressure further cemented his growing status in the squad.

Why did Australian young opener retire from cricket at just 27?

Will Pucovski, a rising star in Australian cricket, retires at 27 after a series of concussions. He now looks forward to a coaching role at Melbourne Cricket Club.

Young Australian opener's retirement announcement

In a heartbreaking development for Australian cricket, Will Pucovski has announced his retirement from all forms of the game at the age of 27, citing persistent health concerns — particularly recurring concussions — as the primary reason.

Despite being seen as one of Australia’s most promising young talents, Pucovski’s career was severely limited by injuries. He made a single Test appearance, against India during the 2020/21 series in Sydney, where he scored a commendable 62 and 10.

What led to Pucovski’s retirement?

The turning point came in March 2024, when Pucovski suffered yet another blow to the helmet during a Sheffield Shield match. The incident forced him to retire hurt and miss the remainder of the domestic season. Based on medical advice, Pucovski also withdrew from playing in the 2024 English county season with Leicestershire.

Speaking on SEN’s Whateley program, he said, “It’s been a really difficult year… the simple message is I won’t be playing cricket at any level again.” A medical panel’s recommendation, along with the mental and physical toll of his injuries, ultimately prompted his decision.

Although his career was brief, Pucovski showed flashes of brilliance. In just 36 first-class matches, he recorded seven centuries and nine fifties, including a career-best 255 not out against South Australia in 2020. Many had tipped him as a future regular in Australia’s Test setup before injuries derailed his path.

What’s next for Will Pucovski?

Pucovski is now preparing for a new chapter as a cricket coach. He will take charge of Melbourne Cricket Club’s Premier Cricket team, a place he’s been associated with since he was 11.

“I’m going to be coaching the MCC next year, which is really exciting. Coaching is always something I’ve wanted to scratch that itch with,” he shared, signaling his commitment to staying involved in the sport and shaping future talent.
