India vs Sri Lanka second T20I match preview

India vs Sri Lanka: With the first T20I at Guwahati being washed out, both India and Sri Lanka would look to strike the first blow in the second T20I at Indore and go 1-0 up in the three match series.

India vs Sri Lanka: Virat Kohli (L) with Lasith Malinga.

With the first T20I at Guwahati being washed out, both India and Sri Lanka would look to strike the first blow in the second T20I at Indore and go 1-0 up in the three match series.

As Jasprit Bumrah returns to the side after a long injury lay off, India’s bowling attack looks lethal. ‘Chinaman’ Kuldeep Yadav was picked up in the first T20I over leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and he is unlikely to sit out in the second T20I.

Both pacers Shardul Thakur and Navdeep Saini, would look to make a mark as the series is a build up to the T20 World Cup in Australia, later this year. India’s batting looked solid against the West Indies, as skipper Virat Kohli and KL Rahul notched up most runs.

With in-form Rohit Sharma being rested for this series, KL Rahul will be competing against his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan for the top slot, as only either of them can represent the team in the T20 World Cup.

As for Sri Lanka, they are likely to make changes after their 3-0 loss against Australia. Generally a good T20 side, they have had a poor record in the shortest format of the game in 2019. However, they have a 3-0 series whitewash against Pakistan to boast about. Pakistan currently occupies the top position in T-20 ICC rankings.

The current Sri Lanka side is as unpredictable as T20 cricket is, they have hard-hitters like Dasun Shanaka and Isuru Udana lower in the order, who can pose some real threat to the ‘Men in Blue’.

Veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews returns to the side after 16 months as experienced skipper Lasith Malinga will try to contain India’s scoring rate.

The weather forecast in Indore show a clear sky with a minimum temperature of 14 degree Celsius.

India leads Sri Lanka in head-to-head matches as the hosts have won 11 out of the 17 matches played.

Probable XI:

India

Virat Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant(wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, Jasprit Bumrah

Sri Lanka

Lasith Malinga (c), Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera (wk), Oshada Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara.

T20 World Cup: Co-host West Indies receives terror threat from Pakistan

Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Jonny Graves said that the safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is their number one priority.

North Pakistan had issued a terror threat against the West Indies, who are co-hosting the T20 World Cup today, May 6. However, West Indies (CWI) assured the public that every safety measure has been done.

The Caribbean islands have received warnings about possible terror threats coming from North Pakistan, according to a trustworthy source with firsthand knowledge of the circumstances. From June 1 to June 29, the US and the West Indies will host the T20 World Cup.

World Cup matches in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago will take place in the West Indies. In addition, there are matches in the US cities of Florida, New York, and Texas; however, there appears to be no danger to the games in the US. Barbados will host the final after the two semifinals are held in Trinidad and Guyana.

A source said that they are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining close communication with relevant authorities. Continuous evaluation of security measures is underway to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any identified risks, they added.

The severity of the problem has increased with the assignment of blame for the danger to IS Khorasan. Trinidad Prime Minister Keith Rowley said that security forces have protocols in place to handle any threats to matches.

As per the report, the Barbados regional security officials are monitoring potential threats to the ICC event in addition to the fact that intelligence of a potential threat to the World Cup has been received through Pro-Islamic State (Daesh) through the media group Nashir Pakistan.

Regarding India, the Men in Blue will face off against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York in their season-opening match. On June 9, they will play their next game at the same location against their bitter rivals, Pakistan. The team captained by Rohit Sharma will play the United States in their subsequent game in New York, and then they will play Canada in their last group-stage encounter at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida.

Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders created history on Sunday during the IPL 2024 match played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket stadium in Lucknow as it became the first team to reach a score of 200-plus runs in a T20 match played at the 50,000 seater stadium in Lucknow.

Sunil Narine smashed 81 runs off 39 balls and posted a total of 235 runs on the board for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. He thrashed the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers all over the park for fun, hitting 6 fours and 7 sixes. In defense of the huge total, Narine returned figures of 1 for 22 in his 4 overs. Harshit Rana was the pick of the KKR bowlers with figures of 3 for 24 in 3.1 overs as LSG were restricted for 137 runs.

The Lucknow Super Giants innings did not really take off. KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis forged a 50 run partnership off 33 balls but it was not enough to cause serious problems for Kolkata Knight Riders. Once the partnership was broken, the LSG innings collapsed as the last 9 wickets fell for 67 runs, as the required rate went out of control.

Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana took 3 wickets each. Andre Russell took 2. And Ramandeep took 2 catches; the first catch was one of the most spectacular of the IPL season. Salt played aggressively, hitting 24 runs off the first 9 balls he faced. But he was soon out for 32 runs off 14 deliveries, and from then onwards, it was the Sunil Narine show.

The Kolkata Knight Riders has moved past the Rajasthan Royal to reach the 1st position in the IPL points table. Kolkata Knight Riders has total of 16 points from 11 matches played so far and their net run rate (+1.453) is better than Rajasthan Royals (+0.622).

MS Dhoni was clean bowled for a golden duck by Punjab Kings pacer Harshal Patel today in their IPL 2024 encounter, Chennai Super Kings supporters were left stunned at Dharamsala.

MS Dhoni’s much-hyped entry soon turned into a shocker after Patel’s magical yorker took out Thala’s wicket, and he actually looked clueless about what happened.

Dhoni has only been got out twice in the competition this year, and both of those dismissals occurred against Punjab Kings in the last two games. In the 19th over of the CSK innings, Harshal Patel hit a stunning slower off-cutter that dropped over Dhoni, leaving the seasoned player absolutely out of sorts. As the supporters watched in horror, the ball continued to damage Dhoni’s stumps. Several fans were left in full disbelief when they saw Dhoni dismissed on the first ball, and the dismissal video has since gone viral on social media.

In a post-match presentation, Harshal Patel—who, along with MI bowler Jasprit Bumrah, is the most wicket-taker in the IPL 2024—spoke about MS Dhoni’s wicket and mentioned that, because of his immense respect for the veteran, he didn’t celebrate much after Thala’s wicket.

Coming at the match, CSK scored 167 for the loss of nine wickets with the partnership of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 32 and top scorer Ravindra Jadeja’s 43. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh got two wickets for PBKS, while Harshal Patel and Rahul Chahar each claimed three.

In consecutive deliveries, Harshal Patel and spinner Rahul Chahar removed Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube, dealing a double blow to the Chennai Super Kings’ batting. Soon after, Moeen Ali and Daryl Mitchell strolled back to the pavilion, and seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja saved the day for the squad.

However, despite their consecutive wins, PBKS are placed at the 7th position in the points table.
