Heeramandi is a tale of love and betrayal in the lives of Indian courtesans in the pre-Independence period. The show, with the release of its teaser, promises giant sets, unmatchable music and compositions, and multiple layered characters.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in an interview, revealed that Heeramandi is the toughest project of his career so far as every episode is like a full-length feature film. He continued there are no compromises in the filmmaking because of the screen size.
He also revealed that Heeramandi will have the essence of love, betrayal, politics, and succession in the kothas during the pre-Independence time.
If reports are to be believed, Mumtaz and Shabana Azmi were also cast in the web series but their roles were scrapped.
Meanwhile, Sonakshi Sinha will return to a big project after the failure of Abhishek Banerjee’s Kalank. She was last seen in Double XL along with Huma Qureshi. With Heeramandi, Sanjeeda Shaikh will mark her Bollywood debut. Earlier, he had worked in daily soaps and multiple web series on OTT platforms.
Speaking of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, his last work was Gangubai Kathiawadi featuring Alia Bhatt in the lead role. The film became a blockbuster and also starred Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Huma Qureshi, and Vijay Raaz in important roles.
