A court in Delhi on Wednesday asked the Delhi Police to furnish a status report on the complaint filed by wrestlers against BJP leader and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Top Indian wrestlers who have accused the WFI president of sexually harassing female wrestlers, including an underage grappler, approached Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, following which the court listed the matter on May 12 (Friday).
What’s the case?
Indian wrestling stars, including household names such as Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and others are protesting at the Jantar Mantar in national capital New Delhi, demanding action against WFI president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual abuse of female wrestlers.
The wrestlers, who have been protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar since April 23, have claimed that they had filed sexual harassment complaints against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Connaught Place Police Station but Delhi Police did not register an FIR.

The protesting grapplers have made it clear that their protest would not end until Brij Bhushan Singh is sacked and arrested while also demanding that the finding of the Oversight Committee be made public by the Sports Ministry.
Last week, on Friday, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said the Delhi Police was conducting an unbiased investigation against the wrestling federation chief and were working to meet the demands of the protesting wrestlers.
The Delhi Police had registered two FIRs in the case following a Supreme Court notice.
On Monday, the protesting wrestlers were joined by farmers under the umbrella of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM)—a farmers’ body that spearheaded the year-long farmers’ protest on the Delhi borders against the now-repealed farm laws.
According to reports, farmers and their leaders from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh joined the protesting grapplers in support of their cause.
