The Congress today said that it will be beginning the Donate for Desh online crowdfunding campaign on December 18. The campaign is modelled after Mahatma Gandhi’s famous Tilak Swaraj Fund, which was established between 1920 and 1921.

The statement was made by Congressmen K C Venugopal and Ajay Maken during a news conference in New Delhi.

General Secretary of the All Indian Congress Committee, Venugopal said, this initiative is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s historic Tilak Swaraj Fund in 1920-21 and aims to empower our party in creating an India rich in equal resource distribution and opportunities.

The Donate for Desh effort, according to AICC treasurer Ajay Maken, is a broad campaign that will include a series of campaigns. In honour of the Congress’s 138th anniversary, the party is promoting contributions in multiples of 138 under the first of these.

Maken said, they asked the countrymen to deposit amounts like Rs 138, Rs 1,380, Rs 13,800 in the Congress account to strengthen the Congress, so that the Congress can work for a better India. The Congress has been in office for 138 years, he said.

Maken announced that the online contribution links would go live on December 18 in conjunction with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s official campaign kickoff in New Delhi. The official INC website (www.inc.in) and a special online portal (www.donateinc.in) are the two channels that have been established for donations, he continued.

Maken asked the state-level office bearers of the Congress, elected representatives, the District Congress Committee, the Pradesh Congress Committee, and the All India Congress Committee to identify potential donors among the party’s supporters and functionaries and endeavour to obtain contributions from them.

He encouraged all of these groups to make donations of at least Rs 1,380 each. He said, this calculated approach will guarantee the realisation of our vision for a better India.

Maken urged all Pradesh Committee leaders to spread the word about the campaign via news conferences and social media, announcing that the party would launch an in-person campaign that would involve volunteers knocking on doors and aiming to reach at least ten homes in each polling place.
