Discovery of four new frog species re-affirms the biodiversity of the Western Ghats

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Reaffirming the place of the Western Ghats as a global biodiversity hot- spot with the most number of frog discoveries in the decade, a researcher from Delhi university and her supervisor have found four new species of burrowing frogs in the region.

After an extensive research that lasted for almost five years, Sonali Garg, a research scholar in Delhi University, and her supervisor, SD Biju, who is also known as ‘the Frog Man of India’, have discovered the new frog species which belong to the Indian frog genus Fejerarya, with unique burrowing skills.

The newly discovered frogs include the Manoharan’s Burrowing frog discovered in the Agasthyamala hills in Soth Kerala, the Kadar Burrowing frog discovered in the Vazhachal forest in Kerala, the CEPF Burrowing frog found in Amboli in Maharashtra, and the Neil’s Cox Burrowing frog discovered in the Parambikulam tiger reserve in Kerala.

The frogs were confirmed as new species by using an integrated taxonomic approach that included DNA studies, detailed morphological comparisons and bio-acoustics, reported Huffington Post.

“Burrowing frogs are very rare, cryptic and difficult to find. Only 7-8 out of the 230 frog species in the Western Ghats are burrowing frogs”, said Biju who supervised the research.

The Western Ghats had witnessed an exponential increase in the discovery of new amphibian species. Out of the 159 new species of amphibians discovered from Western Ghats-Sri Lanka biodiversity hotspot between 2006 and 2015, 103 were from the Western Ghats alone.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati took a jibe on the Congress and the BJP terming former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s US speech to be a harsh truth.

On Friday, the BSP leader took to her official twitter handle to write Gandhi’s recent speech at US about the status of Dalits and Muslims society in India  to be a bitter truth and blamed the ruling BJP, its predecessor Congress  and the past governments who ruled the country for such situation.

Rahul Gandhi who is on a three-city tour of the US, has been holding various interactions at different events. Gandhi spoke about how the Muslims, Dalits, Sikhs, Christians and other religions feel attacked in India.

The former Uttar Pradesh CM also wrote, whether it is the government of Congress or BJP or SP in other states including UP, the injustice-atrocities and exploitation are common at every level on the poor and deprived of the majority Bahujan Samaj.

She claimed, while in UP, only the BSP government had governed by the law and justice was done to all by establishing the rule of law.

Mayawati further added, if history would be traced, it is filled with dark chapters of incessant and countless communal riots and casteist incidents which were undertaken for political and electoral interests, for which allegations and counter-allegations are made by the political parties but due to these reasons people of these classes are constantly exploited and victimized despite their benevolent constitution and they remain helpless.

The BJP is attacking Gandhi over his remarks in US about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, press freedom and institutions in the country. BJP is in view that the Congress leader holds no bar to insult India at the International forum.

Auto man patna

Auto rides, also known as tuk-tuks or three-wheelers, are a popular mode of transportation in India. These compact, motorized vehicles offer a fun and unique way to explore cities and towns while experiencing the local culture, but can you ever Imagine yourself lying on the roof of the auto-rickshaw and enjoying its ride?

A video is now viral on the internet, where a man can be seen taking up a stunt that has shocked the internet.

In the viral video, a man from Chikohra, Patna can be seen, in an attempt to make his auto ride more thrilling and interesting, laid on the rooftop of a auto-rickshaw.

This shocking video has been a talking point on the internet. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that we are witnessing such incident, a few months back, on the festival of Holi, a video from Lucknow was spread across the internet, where a drunk man was seen dancing on the rooftop of a auto-rickshaw.

At the current time, when cases of road accidents leading to death in India recorded very high, most of us forget to care about the rules and regulations that we must follow when we are on the roads. The prime example of the same is that most of the riders/drivers don’t care to wear helmets or use seat belts while driving.  While, many break the rules having any fear of getting caught or punished.

According to the report by the National Crime Bureau ( NCRB ), India witnessed around 1.5 lakh road fatalities in 2018 alone which increased to 4,37,396 in 2019, a surge of around 3 lakh deaths due to accidents in a year. However the number decreased substantially in pandemic hit 2020.

The viral video is one such example and many such incidents occurred in the past are the examples of the ignorance and negligence of people towards road safety and their self safety.
