IND vs NZ 1st Test

New Zealand gave a strong reply to the Indian team on day 2 of the 1st Test match at Kanpur. The Kiwi team led by Kane Williamson fought back on day 2 after having a decent performance on day 1. Both their openers Will Young (75) and Tom Latham (50) scored fifties and added an unbeaten century (129) stand for the opening wicket.

The New Zealand openers and bowlers dominated day 2 of the Kanpur Test match, bowling out Indian on 345 and then scoring 129 without losing any wickets. This is the only third time in Test cricket history that New Zealand has managed to put a hundred run partnership against India in India. Before today, Michael Richardson and Lou Vincent had added a century run partnership for New Zealand in 2003.

Earlier in the first session of day 2, debutant Shreyas Iyer completed his century in his debut test match and became only 16th Indian to do the same.

Shreyas Iyer said after the match that he couldn’t get a good sleep last night because of whatever has been happened in the last two days, from receiving his test cap from Sunil Gavaskar to scoring fifty on day 1, was too much for him.

“I wasn’t able to sleep well at all, got up early at five today morning but when you make a century, it’s a wonderful feeling. They got off to a good start obviously but it’s important for us to not leak runs because the cracks are opening up and it should get trickier tomorrow,” added Iyer after day 2 was completed on November 26.

When Iyer got out on 105 after scoring his ton, team India got bowled out on 345. Tim Southee took four wickets and completed his fifer in the first innings, while Kyle Jamieson and Azaz Patel scalped 3 and 2 wickets, respectively.

However, New Zealand is still 216 run behind of India’ total and Men in Blue still have a chance to make a comeback on day 3.
