Two days after the Congress was defeated by the BJP in the Rajasthan assembly election, Karni Sena head Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was shot dead in his Jaipur residence on Tuesday, sparking a political brawl.

The Karni Sena announced a state-wide bandh on Wednesday in response to the murder, while the BJP, which is set to take power in the state, asserted that the killing was part of the Congress’ revenge plan after the party lost the election.

In a video posted by BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi claims that police were notified of a potential security danger, but Congress chief minister Ashok Gehlot scaled back his protection.

On Tuesday, three men riding bikes approached Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi’s Jaipur home and opened fire. Social media users were able to see the CCTV footage of the shootout incident.

As he returned fire, one of Gogamedi’s security guards was shot. The cross-firing claimed the life of one of the three attackers. Although the authorities first said the attacker died from gunfire from Gogamedi’s security guards, he was really shot and killed by his cronies.

Gogamedi posted on X on December 3, the day the election results were announced and the Congress lost to the BJP, citing the Congress’s disregard for the Karni Sena as the reason for the defeat.

The murder was committed by the Rohit Godara gang, according to Rajasthan Police. Gangster Rohit Godara has deep ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldie Brar gangs.

In protest over the death, Gogamedi’s followers called for a bandh on Wednesday and threatened to shut down the entire state if something was not done about it.

All of the state’s popular leaders, including Rajyavardhan Rathore, Ashok Gehlot of the Congress, Sachin Pilot of the BJP, and Vasundhara Raje of the Congress, condemned the death, which occurred when everyone was waiting for the BJP to form the next government. Not long after the BJP took control, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate dubbed it the’return of jungle raj.

In a terrifying footage of the incident, the accused was seen sitting next to Gogamedi before shooting him, taking him by surprise. He was close-range shot at least five times, the last bullet going right through his brain.

The commander of the fringe outfit can be seen on CCTV staring at his phone when the individuals seated across from him got up and opened fire. The gunmen opened fire on him after seeing one of his guards attempt to stop them.

The men can be seen firing at Gogamedi repeatedly in the 20-second video, even after he had stopped moving.
