The Rajya Sabha is set to begin its 268th session on July 21, marking the first Parliament meeting since the terror incident in Pahalgam and the launch of Operation Sindoor. The monsoon session will continue until August 21, with sittings suspended between August 12 and 17 in view of Independence Day celebrations.

The schedule, confirmed through an official Parliamentary Bulletin, outlines that the House will operate from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on working days, unless otherwise updated.

As per the Legislative Section, the summons for this session were issued exclusively via the Members’ Portal, through which MPs are expected to remain updated with circulars and developments during the monsoon session.

President Droupadi Murmu has given her nod to the proposed schedule, as announced by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. There will be no sittings on August 13 and 14.

This session holds particular importance as it is the first following Operation Sindoor, which was initiated in response to the May 7 terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 26 casualties. The tragic incident has intensified the national focus on internal security, and the upcoming session is expected to address related issues.

While the specific legislative agenda has not yet been made public, significant debates and bill discussions are anticipated. The previous Budget session, which commenced on January 31, included the passage of key legislations such as the Waqf Amendment Bill.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal is slated to move the Bill for consideration and passage. The proposed legislation seeks to amend the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956.

Alongside the Bill, the Lok Sabha will also consider a statutory resolution moved by Opposition MPs Sougata Ray, N.K. Premachandran, and Adv. Dean Kuriakose seeking to disapprove the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, which was promulgated by the President on May 16, 2026.
