In a fierce political counterattack, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Sambit Patra on Friday lashed out at Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for questioning the efficacy of Rafale fighter jets used in Operation Sindoor. Addressing a press briefing at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Patra accused the Congress party of adopting a narrative that echoes Pakistan’s line of questioning.
Patra criticised Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Revanth Reddy for focusing on alleged Indian losses during the operation rather than questioning Pakistan about its airbase destruction or the elimination of terrorists. “Why don’t they ask Pakistan how many of their airbases were destroyed? Why only question how many Indian jets were hit?” he asked.
“Pakistan ke Babbar, Hindustan ke Gabbar”: Patra’s jibe
Taking a swipe at the Telangana CM’s comments, Patra mockingly said, “Yeh jo Pakistan ke Babbar hain, woh Hindustan ke Gabbar hain,” suggesting that some Indian politicians are aligning more closely with Pakistan’s interests than India’s. He even suggested that the Congress should hold a joint press conference with Pakistan if they continue their current stance.
He further claimed that the Congress party is internally divided—one faction allegedly sympathetic to Pakistan and the other rendered ineffective by Rahul Gandhi’s leadership. Patra also mocked Congress’ ongoing “Jai Hind Yatra”, comparing it to a “Pakistan Hind Yatra”.
Congress equated MPs with terrorists, says Patra
Responding to Jairam Ramesh’s recent statements regarding the multi-party delegation, Patra alleged that the Congress leader equated Indian MPs with terrorists. “Our MPs went to represent the country’s position globally, not on a leisure trip,” he asserted.
Patra went on to accuse the previous UPA administration of showing leniency towards terrorists. He referenced an incident where he claimed terrorists were hosted in the Prime Minister’s Office and alleged that Sonia Gandhi was emotional over terrorist casualties. He reaffirmed that Indian forces had struck nine terror hideouts in Pakistan and even released satellite imagery as proof.
Revanth Reddy questions Rafale deal, attacks PM Modi
The controversy erupted after Revanth Reddy questioned the performance of Rafale jets during a recent Congress meeting. The CM asked how many Rafales were shot down and demanded accountability from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the costs and the outcomes of the fighter jet procurement.
Reddy accused the Modi government of succumbing to foreign pressure by halting military action, and reiterated his support for merging Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with India. He also claimed the Congress, led by the Gandhi family, has always made sacrifices for the nation, contrasting this with what he described as BJP’s demoralising impact on the armed forces.
