Telangana assembly elections, BJP list

The first list of 52 candidates for the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections was released by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday.

T Raja Singh, who was suspended earlier today for making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Mohammed, has been put forward to run from the Goshmahal constituency. Karimnagar constituency’s Sanjay Kumar Bandi will join the race.

Huzurabad and Gajwel are the two constituencies from which Rajender Eatala will contest. In Gajwel, Etala, a former member of the Telangaa Rashtra Samithi (now Bharat Rashtra Samithi), would spar with KCR, the Telangana Chief Minister, and the leader of his previous party.

Currently serving members of parliament, Sanjay Kumar Bandi, a former president, Bapu Rao Soyam, and Arvind Dharmapuri are among the three contenders on the list. Soyam is expected to run from Boath in the upcoming election, and Dharmapuri from the Korutla seat.

Under the direction of Jagat Prakash Nadda, the BJP’s Central Election Committee met on Friday and decided on the names. During the meeting were Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On October 15, the opposition Congress unveiled its initial list of 55 candidates for the Telangana elections, including former president of the Telangana Congress Uttam Kumar Reddy of Huzurnagar and head of the party’s state unit Anumula Revanth Reddy of Kodangal.

There are four state-based Lok Sabha MPs for the BJP. Another MP whose name is not on the first list is G Kishan Reddy, the state president and union minister. The Congress is fighting hard as well, but the BJP is making a lot of effort to become the primary rival to the ruling BRS.

Elections for the Telangana Assembly are scheduled for November 30. Results will be declared on December 3. There are 35,356 polling places in the state in total; 14,464 of them are in urban areas and 20,892 are in rural areas.

In a significant win for the Aam Aadmi Party, the Supreme Court ordered on Tuesday that votes for AAP Mayor Candidate Kuldeep Kumar were cast in all eight rejected ballots.

Additionally, it mandated that the poll’s votes be recounted and that these eight be recognised as legitimate votes. The Court said that results would then be announced based on it.

In order to become mayor, BJP’s Manoj Sonkar defeated Kuldeep Kumar, receiving 16 votes against to his opponent’s 12. However, Sonkar later resigned, while three AAP councillors defected to the BJP.

With the Supreme Court’s order, AAP mayoral candidate Kuldeep Kumar, who was also the petitioner in the case, has been declared winner of the election.

The eight votes that Returning Officer Anil Masih declared invalid were genuine, according to a three-judge panel led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The ballots were cast in support of AAP mayoral candidate Kuldeep Kumar.

The bench observed that Anil Masih intentionally attempted to tamper with eight votes that were cast in the petitioner’s favor.

On February 5, the Supreme Court rapped the returning officer as well, saying that it was evident he had tampered with the ballots and that he should face legal consequences. It further stated that his actions amounted to murder and mockery of democracy.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal congratulated Kuldeep Kumar on becoming the new Mayor of Chandigarh. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, he said, on behalf of INDIA alliance, many congratulations to Kuldeep Kuamr on becoming the Mayor of Chandigarh. He also said this is only possible because of Indian democracy and Supreme Court.

Following the decision, AAP’s workers were seen celebrating Supreme Court’s decision. The party workers can be seen hugging eachother as Kuldeep Kumar was announced the new Mayor of Chandigarh.

For unversed, the result of the Chandigarh Mayor polls were announced on January 30, where BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar declared winner by 16 votes.
