36 Tamil Nadu districts out of Covid vaccines, state Health Minister says Centre doesn’t want info made public
Following which, the Tamil Nadu Health Minister MA Subramanian has raised an alarm over the shortage of Covid vaccine doses and said no jabs are available in the 36 districts while less than 2,000 doses remaining in Chennai.

Tamil Nadu has been moving to Phase-I unlock but vaccination, the vital prevention tool against Covid-19, came to a grinding halt in several districts on Wednesday with 39 of 45 health units reporting zero stock.
Following which, the Tamil Nadu Health Minister MA Subramanian has raised an alarm and said no jabs are available in the 36 districts while less than 2,000 doses remaining in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu has so far received 1.01 crore doses under the state and central quota and 97.5 lakh doses have been administered and three lakh doses of vaccines were wasted since January 2021. However, the Central quota allocated for the month of June is 37 lakh, of which 6.5 lakh is expected to reach by June 13.
The number of vaccinations has gone down from 83,000 to 12,000 beneficiaries in the last five days. As per the new reports on Wednesday, the state has received 85,000 doses of Covaxin and as many as 12,609 were jabbed in the state . The vaccines arrangements are underway to distribute it to all the districts.
It may take a few more days for the state to get back to vaccinating more than 2 lakh people daily as it is likely to get less than 30% of the promised 42 lakh doses in June.
The state government has been trying to reach out to the Centre and the vaccine manufacturers Serum Institute and the Bharat Biotech requesting them to immediately supply more vaccine doses to Tamil Nadu as it has been facing an acute shortage of vaccines.
Talking about PM Modi’s announcement to provide Covid vaccine doses for everyone above 18 years from June 31, Subramanian said Chief Minister MK Stalin has requested the PM to allocate more vaccines to Tamil Nadu considering the spread of the infection. Subramanian also said people should adhere to Covid-19 guidelines and not be negligent just because the cases are reducing in the state
Continuing the downward trend, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday recorded 17,321 fresh Covid infections while the recoveries rose to 31,253. The fatalities slightly dipped to 405 – 169 in private hospitals and 236 in government facilities – taking the total toll so far to 28,170. The total recoveries stood at 4,98,586 while 7,613 are the fatalities.
