Jaane Jaan social media review: Kareena Kapoor OTT debut is a mix of Drishyam and Kahaani
Sujoy Gosh relied too heavily on the strength of his actors, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma, and let them carry the entire movie on their shoulders without much concern for the plot.

It is challenging to surpass the standard that Sujoy Ghosh set for himself with the Vidya Balan-starring film Kahaani. And it’s clear in the majority of his later ventures where he took on the director’s role. With Jaane Jaan, the trailer foretold great things and made things appear to be quite exciting, but the movie only just manages to live up to the anticipation or even approach the intrigue level it set out to produce.
Jaideep Ahlawat’s first dream in Jaane Jaan is unmistakably grim. On the top left of the screen, there is a brief warning that appears as soon as the movie starts, warning you that it contains references to drug use, suicide, and domestic violence.
This warning, together with the nightmare of Jaideep’s character, quickly paints a clear image of what you are getting into. This is a Sujoy Ghosh film, after all.
Halfway through Jaane Jaan, everyone was convinced that even the director knew this wasn’t one of his best pieces. However, it’s possible that he relied too heavily on the strength of his actors, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma, and let them carry the entire movie on their shoulders without much concern for the plot.
And these three give flawless performances, which are what keep Jaane Jaan from drowning. They give moviegoers with a rewarding experience when taken as a whole. Jaane Jaan would have been a fantastic viewing if I had to limit my attention to just watching them perform. However, the movie has a number of flaws that are difficult to overlook.
While people have few complaints about Ghosh’s commitment to his work as a director, Jaane Jaan clearly needs more pace, complexity, and nuance to hit you hard, which it never does, with the possible exception of one sequence concerning physical abuse.
Kareena Kapoor starrer Jaane Jaan is based on the best-selling Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino. An acclaimed book that has been translated into numerous languages and turned into films in South Korea, China, Japan, and even Tamil (‘Kolaigaran’).
