Amit Shah defends Pragya Thakur’s candidature from Bhopal, calling it a right decision

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah today (Monday, April 22) defended party’s decision of fielding Pragya Singh Thakur from Bhopal Lok Sabha Constituency against Congress Senior leader and former MP CM Digvijaya Singh, calling it a correct decision.

The court hearing the Malegaon blast case, found that the charges against Sadhvi Pragya Singh were fake, BJP national president Amit Shah claimed, while addressing a rally in Kolkata.

“As far as Sadvhi Pragya is concerned, I want to say that a fake case was filed in the name of Hindu terror with the intention to show the country’s culture in bad light. The court hearing the case concluded that the charges were fake,” Shah said while addressing a press conference in Kolkata.

The National Investigation Agency, which took over the Malegaon blast case in 2011, had watered down the case against Sadhvi Pragya and others by dropping the charges under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). The NIA special court granted Sadhvi Pragya bail but did not accept her exoneration, and ordered her to face trial under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Speaking on the contentious NRC and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Shah said refugees need not worry as after returning to power, the BJP will first bring the bill in Parliament and then implement the NRC across the country to weed out infiltrators.

“The refugees will be given citizenship and they will remain in this country with full dignity. They should not pay heed to the misleading statements by Mamata Banerjee,” the BJP president said.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also defended the candidature of Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, slamming the Congress, he said that why don’t anyone raise questions over Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi who are also contesting elections and they are also out on bail.

“In Amethi, they (Congress) have a candidate (Rahul Gandhi) who is on bail, in Rae Bareli, they have a candidate (Sonia Gandhi) who is on bail, but there is no debate on that. But if the candidate from Bhopal is on bail, there is so much of outcry,” PM said while talking to the media.

Shah dismissed the speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will contest from a second Lok Sabha seat from West Bengal. To a question if PM Modi will file nomination from West Bengal, Shah said, “No, there is no such plan at the moment.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Congress’ Satyagraha insult to Mahatma Gandhi, says BJP

The BJP on Sunday tore into the Congress over its ‘Sankalp Satyagraha’ calling the protest programme an “insult to Mahatma Gandhi” who undertook a Satyagraha for social causes while the grand old party was doing it for “personal reasons.”

Speaking to reporters at a presser, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi lambasted the Congress over its “so-called Satyagraha”, while accusing the opposition party of protesting against the nation’s Constitution and the court’s verdict against Rahul Gandhi to justify his remarks against India’s “entire backward community.”

Trivedi dubbed the Congress satyagraha as a “brazen” display of arrogance after Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a defamation case by a Gujarat court which “automatically” disqualifies him as a member of the parliament.

The BJP leader asked why the Congress was holding a Satyagraha when Gandhi was convicted by a court after the due legal process and his disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP was an automatic consequence under the prevailing law.

He further asked the Congress to clarify if the protest was to “justify insulting the entire backward community of the country” or against the court for the sentence of against the law under which Gandhi was disqualified.

The saffron party leader alleged that some Congress leaders participating in the Satyagraha are involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He asked if their Satyagraha organised at Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi Sthal in Rajghat was also against ‘Ahimsa’ (non-violence).

Congress today staged a nationwide “Sankalp Satyagraha” in support of former party President Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha following his conviction and two-year prison sentence by a court in Gujarat’s Surat city in a 2019 criminal defamation case.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, a day after a Surat court convicted him in a 2019 defamation case and sentenced him to a two-year jail term. The disqualification will prevent 52-year-old Gandhi, a four-time MP, from contesting elections for eight years unless a higher court stays the conviction.

Heavy security is also deployed in the capital today.

Rahul Gandhi on Thursday was sentenced to 2 years in jail in connection with the 2019 defamation case over the Modi surname remark. A Surat court suspended his arrest and granted him bail on a bail bond of Rs 15,000.

While addressing a rally at Kolar in Karnataka ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he argued why the names of all thieves have Modi as their surname. The case against Rahul Gandhi was filed before the Surat court under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 499 and 500 (dealing with defamation).

On Friday, Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership was cancelled and he was disqualified from the Parliament.

On Saturday, Gandhi conducted a press conference and attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party over the Gautam Adani row involving a Hindenburg Report.
