5 Hindu Sena members arrested for vandalising Assaduddin Owaisi’s Delhi residence

The Delhi Police on Tuesday detained five Hindu Sena members for allegedly vandalising AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s residence at Ashoka Road.

The DCP, New Delhi, Deepak Yadav said the Delhi Police detained five people and registered an FIR under relevant sections of IPC.

Calling the Parliamentarian a jihadi, Hindu Sena damaged the door and windows of Owaisi’s residence, broke the nameplate, hurled an axe at the parliamentarian’s house. Owaisi’s residence is in New Delhi’s high-security Ashoka Road.

Speaking to the reporters Owais said this is not the first time that his residence has come under attack. He said he will write to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla drawing his attention to the repeated attacks.

In a series of tweets, Owaisi said the caretaker of his residence had also been attacked.

The videos and images of the incident are rounding on social media.

Another video of the incident posted on Facebook showed 6-7 men gathered outside Owaisi’s residence, raising slogans. In the video, a man can be seen picking up sticks and breaking the nameplate, a tubelight, and some windows of the house.

One of the men is heard calling Owaisi a jihadi, and alleging that the MP and his brother have been making anti-Hindu speeches. Two men can be seen breaking the nameplates with axes, while others throw stones at the house. One of the men is seen hurling an axe inside the gate.

Sarma submitted his resignation to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhawan in Guwahati. The Governor accepted the resignation and asked him to continue as the caretaker Chief Minister until the new government takes charge.

The resignation comes after the NDA’s strong electoral performance, where the alliance won a clear majority in the 126-member Assembly, ensuring its return to power for another term.

Oath ceremony expected after May 11

Speaking to reporters after submitting his resignation, Sarma said the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is likely to be held after May 11.

He indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to attend the ceremony but is unavailable until May 11, which has influenced the tentative schedule.

Sources suggest that central observers, including senior BJP leaders, are expected to arrive shortly to oversee the selection of the legislature party leader. The newly elected MLAs will then decide on the next Chief Minister.
