Narendra Modi-led government will bring back all fugitives: Prakash Javadekar

Prakash Javadekar

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday (March 9) claimed the Congress responsible for the alleged financial frauds involving Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya and Mehul Choksi, adding all such fugitives will be extradited to India by the Narendra Modi-led government.

“After Nirav Modi was spotted in London, Congress people are happy that he is spending good time there, but the Modi government will bring back all the fugitives. They (fugitives) as well as those who helped them will be punished,” he said at a press conference.

“They were allowed to loot banks. Then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had also said Kingfisher airlines (owned by Vijay Mallya) should be helped. It was the Congress government which allowed them to take away depositors money,” he said.

Javadekar said Congress president Rahul Gandhi had attended a programme organised by Nirav Modi’s company on September 13, 2013 and alleged that next day, Allahabad bank approved a loan of Rs. 1,550 crore to the diamantaire.

“…Now, after Modi became the prime minister, such fugitives absconded fearing action,” he said.

Crediting the PM Modi-led government for its action against wrong-doers, the senior BJP leader said the Centre was able to extradite Christian Michel, accused in AgustaWestland chopper scam, and other high-profile accused like lobbyists Deepak Talwar and Rajiv Saxena.

“They were protected by the Congress, but we are bringing them back one by one,” he added.

Form JPC to probe Adani case, investigation should be conducted under Supreme Court supervision, says Opposition

Adani Enterprises on Wednesday announced the withdrawal of its Rs 20,000 crore follow-up public offering (FPO) and return of investors’ money

Joint Parliamentary Committee

The Congress and several other opposition parties on Thursday demanded a discussion on the Adani Enterprises case in both the Houses of Parliament and also urged that a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) be set up to investigate the matter or under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters after Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha meetings were adjourned till 2 pm due to ruckus on various issues, including Adani and said that they want to ask why the government should give pressure to such companies in getting loan?

He further said that keeping in view the interests of the people and the investment of LIC, SBI, they are demanding a discussion. “Our demand is that it should be investigated by constituting a JPC or it should be investigated under the leadership of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. And people should be sure that their money is saved.” Earlier, the proceedings of both the Parliament were disrupted due to the uproar by the opposition parties on this subject.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “Both Houses of Parliament adjourned till 2 pm today as the government responds to the joint opposition’s demand to probe investments made under duress by LIC, SBI and other public institutions.” He claimed that the savings of crores of Indians are at risk today due to the fall in the value of such investments.

Opposition parties have raised the issue related to Adani Enterprises in both the Houses and demand a discussion on it. Kharge had given an adjournment notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha without directly mentioning Adani Enterprises. In the notice, it was demanded that the issue of investment of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), public sector banks and financial institutions in companies that have lost capital in the market should be discussed. In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Manickam Tagore also gave an adjournment notice and demanded a discussion on the issue of Adani Enterprises.

Congress MP Manish Tiwari tweeted that a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should be constituted on the Adani episode. Significantly, Adani Enterprises on Wednesday announced the withdrawal of its Rs 20,000 crore follow-up public offering (FPO) and return of investors’ money. However, the FPO of the company was fully subscribed on Tuesday. It is understood that Adani Enterprises has taken this step after the report of America’s short selling company Hindenburg. This business group had termed the report as baseless.

JD(U) leader Upendra Kushwaha lashes out at Nitish Kumar, says CM unable to exercise his own volition

On Monday, Kushwaha alleged that his convoy was attacked at Jagdishpur in the Bhojpur district of Bihar.

Upendra Kushwaha

Janata Dal (United) parliamentary board chairman Upendra Kushwaha on Tuesday lashed out at Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar and said the CM is unable to exercise his own volition.

Speaking at a press conference, he also cited it to be the reason for JD(U)’s vulnerability.

Kushwaha further said he has been asked to clarify what he meant by claiming his own share in the party that Nitish Kumar demanded at the unforgettable rally of 1994 when Lalu Prasad Yadav didn’t want to give their leaders due.

He further dismissed Nitish Kumar’s claims that he was appointed as the Chairman of the JDU Parliamentary Board out of respect. Even after being the Chairman of the Parliamentary Board, he cannot nominate a member and no attention was paid to his suggestions, claimed Kushwaha.

On Monday, Kushwaha alleged that his convoy was attacked at Jagdishpur in the Bhojpur district of Bihar. Reports said the JD(U) leader was travelling to Buxar from Bhojpur to attend a private event.

In a tweet, Kushawa alleged that a few people started pelting stones at his convoy while it was passing Nayka Tola crossing and he managed to escape. He also informed that the people who attacked his convoy covered their faces.

However, Bhojpur superintendent of police Pramod Kumar dismissed the claim and said there was a fight between supporters of Kushwaha and his opposition.

In 2017, Upendra Kushwaha merged his Rashtriya Lok Samata and returned to the JD(U). He alleged that parliamentary board chiefs are unable to exercise their powers. He split with Nitish Kumar’s party twice. After the split in 2013, his party went down and suffered defeats in multiple elections including the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 and the assembly elections of 2020.

Kushwaha started his political career in 1985 and served as National General-Secretary, of Yuva Janata Dal, from 1988–93.
