Rahul Gandhi kickstarts Congress campaign for next year’s Telangana assembly polls, slams KCR rulling TRS, says state is ruled by King not by a Chief Minister

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Saturday kickstarted Congress’ campaign for next year’s Telangana assembly polls saying that the upcoming assembly elections in the state will be a direct fight between Congress and the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti.

Gandhi accused the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of corruption and the BJP of being hand-in-glove with Telangana Rashtra Samiti to keep Congress away from power. The BJP is ‘remote-controlling’ the TRS and a vote for the TRS means a vote for the BJP, he said.

Slamming the ruling TRS chief KCR, Gandhi said the state is ruled by Raja (King), not by a Chief Minister.

Targetting KCR, Gandhi said just this one person has destroyed the dream of Telangana. Congress imagined that Telangana would be a model state for the rest of the country when it was formed.

Rahul Gandhi said Congress can not compromise with a party that has betrayed Telangana. His party would never align with corrupt TRS. Telangana was not given to benefit just one family, he also said.

Congress wants to focus on education, health and employment, Congress’s Wayanad MP said.

Rahul Gandhi’s Telangana visit comes after his much-discussed Nepal trip which had been highlighted by the mainstream media in the middle of Congress’ negotiations with poll strategist Prashant Kishor.

However, Rahul Gandhi’s two-day Telangana visit comes a day after BJP president JP Nadda addressed a public meeting in Mahbubnagar saying that Telangana was ready for a change and would choose the double engine government of the BJP.

The Telangana Congress is hoping Rahul Gandhi’s visit will provide the much-needed momentum to the party ahead of the next year’s assembly elections in KCR ruling Telangana.
