Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav

Nine rebel MLAs from Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party have said to have met former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday morning. Sources said they could switch over to the Samajwadi Party to change the political equations ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election next year.

The meeting between the MLAs and Akhilesh took place at the SP office in Lucknow. The MLAs are Hakim Lal Bind (Handia), Vandana Singh (Sagri), Ramveer Upadhyay (Sadabad), Anil Kumar Singh (Purwa), Aslam Raini (Bhinga), Aslam Ali (Dholana), Mujtaba Siddiqui (Pratappur), Hargovind Bhargava (Sidhauli) and Sushma Patel (Mungra Badshahpur).

BSP chief Mayawati had expelled seven MLAs. Along with the five BSP legislators — Aslam Chaudhary, Aslam Raini, Muztaba Siddiqui, Hakam Lal Bind and Govind Jatav — who had had joined the SP last year, this was the BSP’s fresh round of desertions to her erstwhile ally.

BSP MLA Uma Shankar Singh had then alleged the five legislators were bought over and to prevent the election of Dalit leader Ramji Gautam to the Rajya Sabha.

The BSP won 19 seats in the 2017 Assembly election and lost one in a by-election. It currently has 18 MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and Mayawati has expelled 11 in the last four years.

Mayawati had sacked two senior MLAs recently for anti-party activities. Seven rebelled during the Rajya Sabha polls last year and were expelled, taking the total number of MLAs expelled by the party to 11, with all of them being removed in the last 18 months.

Earlier this month, she expelled two more MLAs Lalji Verma, who was also the BSP legislative party leader, and Akbarpur MLA Ram Achal Rajbhar. Report suggests Verma is in talks with the Samajwadi Party while Rajbhar could join the BJP.

Having BSP MLAs cross over to the SP makes Akhilesh Yadav look more powerful ahead of elections less than a year away. Yadav lost to a landslide BJP sweep in 2017 after which the BJP chose to appoint then Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister.

With such mass desertions from the BSP and Mayawati looking like a second-grade BJP ally in these times, the political future of the BSP looks headed for a sunset.

Kullu Dussehra swing accident: 3 people, including 1 woman, sustained injuries after tyre falls on their head | WATCH

Dussehra is celebrated with great pomp and zeal in India. From having good food to enjoying swings, people visit Dussehra fairs to mark this festival. But a horrific incident happened during International Kullu Dussehra Festival in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu when three people sustained injuries after a swing tyre fell on them on Wednesday at around 9 pm.

The video of the same is going viral on social media in which it can be seen that, as and when the woman stepped outside the swing, its tyre suddenly broke and fell on another woman standing nearby. During the incident, two people from Delhi and a woman from Kullu sustained major injuries.

The good part was that the swing was not moving at that time, otherwise, a serious accident might have occurred if it had continued to swing. At the time of the incident, people were getting off the swing. When the girl left the swing, the tyre touched her head and landed on another girl who was standing close by, and she fainted.

The police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information about the incident. After reaching, the authorities sealed the swing. The police are conducting research thoroughly to find the reason behind the mishap.

Speaking about the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Kullu Sagar Chandra said that the swing was sealed as soon as the information was received. The girl is undergoing treatment in the hospital as she has suffered a neck injury, while information about where the two tourists from Delhi went for treatment is not available.

A similar incident took place a few days ago in Punjab’s Mohali after a swing fell to the ground at the Dussehra fair, injuring around 20 people.

In another incident, an 80-foot effigy of Ravana fell on the ground in Haryana’s Yamunanagar during Ravana Dahan. The video of the incident is doing rounds on the internet in which it can be seen that people were standing close to the nearly-burnt effigy of Ravana when it started falling.
