From former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, who said what on Supreme Court’s sedition law order
After Supreme Court’s historic judgement, many senior politicians belonging to various parties voiced their opinion on the Supreme Court’s historic decision on the 152-year-old sedition law.

From former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, many senior politicians belonging to various parties voiced their opinion on the Supreme Court’s historic decision on the 152-year-old sedition law.
The Supreme Court ordered all pending trials, appeals, and proceedings with respect to the charge framed under Section 124A, which deals with the offence of sedition, will be kept in abeyance until the Central government reconsiders retaining the sedition law, which its opponents say has been used indiscriminately to stifle dissent.
In today’s hearing in the case, the central government had initially defended the colonial provision but later told the court it was reviewing it.
Welcoming the Supreme Court order, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi tweeted that telling the truth is patriotism, not treason and listening to the truth is Rajdharma while crushing the truth is arrogance. Do not fear, he wrote in his tweet.
Expressing his opinion on the apex court’s historic judgment on sedition, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju told the reporters that while he respected the court and its independence, there is a Lakshman Rekha or a line not meant to be crossed.
Congress general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the apex court’s latest verdict sends a clear message that free speech will not be throttled by autocrats and dictators masquerading as rulers.
Soon after the Supreme Court’s verdict, the Congress leader tweeted that suppressors and subjugators sitting in citadels of power be forewarned. Speaking truth to power can’t be sedition and the status quo will change, he said in a tweet shared via his official handle.
Expressing his opinion on SC’s verdict on sedition law, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra termed it a victory. It was a great day for democracy. “The Sediton law stands stayed. Kudos to the Supreme Court, she said. While former Law Minister Ashwani Kumar also welcomed the historic order and urged the Centre and states to refrain from registering any FIRs under it.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also shared his old article titled Section 124A is not necessary to prevent insurrection. He had written it for a news magazine last year.
