Trinamool Congress says Suvendu Adhikari will not be leaving party, issues resolved

The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday said it has resolved its differences with former minister Suvendu Adhikari who quit the Mamata Banerjee cabinet last Friday. Adhikari will not be resigning from the party.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked senior Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy to negotiate with the 49-year-old, a party MLA from Nandigram. Roy said on Tuesday that Suvendu is staying with the Trinamool Congress, an understanding is reached. The understanding came after a two-hour meeting attended by Adhikari and Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool MP and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew. Besides Roy, senior Trinamool MP Sudip Banerjee was also present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, Adhikari, who resigned as a state minister on Friday, however, has not commented on the same. Asked for his reaction, his father, TMC MP Sisir Adhikari, said, if it is true, he is happy.
Earlier on Sunday, Sudip Banerjee had criticised Suvendu Adhikari at a rally in Diamond Harbour. He had said he has not arrived by parachute or taken lift to reach where he is today. He was referring to Adhikari’s comment in which, without naming Banerjee, he had accused him of taking a short cut to climb the party hierarchy.
While carrying out a clear attack at Adhikari, Banerjee had saidif he had used a parachute or ladder, he would not fight election from a toughconstituency like Diamond Harbour to become MP and would have rather stood fromhis home constituency south Kolkata.
Adhikari, who was Minister in Charge of Transport, Irrigation and Water Resources, was seen distancing himself from Trinamool Congress as he was organising programmes without party banners. He was known to have expressed his disappointment at the party for not giving him the position he deserved, unlike other senior members.
