India vs pakistan asia cup 2025

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav delivered a cheeky remark after his side’s dominant win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash on Sunday, suggesting that it was time to stop labelling India–Pakistan encounters as a “rivalry.”

India dismantled Pakistan with ease, extending their dominance in T20Is between the two neighbours. Out of 15 clashes, India have now won 12, while Pakistan managed just three victories.

When a senior Pakistani journalist asked if the gulf in standards between the two sides had widened, Suryakumar responded with a grin:
“Sir, my request is that we should now stop calling India vs Pakistan matches a rivalry. Rivalry means if two teams play 15 games and it’s 8-7. Here it’s 12-3. There is no contest.”

He then walked out of the press room smiling, leaving the remark hanging in the air.

India Outplay Pakistan

India’s commanding start came from the bat of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, who put on a blistering 105-run partnership in just 9.5 overs. The openers dismantled Pakistan’s bowling attack and set the tone for a strong total.

“I think we were better than them (Pakistan), and also from a bowling point of view,” Suryakumar said, while also pointing out the high catching error rate at the Dubai venue.

The skipper showered praise on Abhishek Sharma, saying:
“He knows what is required of him, what bowlers are going to bowl, that’s a plus point for him. He is learning with every game.”

Pakistan Left Searching

Pakistan captain Salman Agha admitted his side fell short after being well-placed at 91 in 10 overs. They eventually managed 171 – a score Agha believed was 15–20 runs below par.

“We have yet to play a perfect game in this event,” he said. “After being 91 in 10 overs, we lost our way. Still, 171 was a challenging total. Our bowlers could not control the Indian openers.”

Pakistan will next face Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, while Bangladesh already hold an edge in the Super Four after beating Sri Lanka by four wickets on Saturday. The top two sides from the Super Four will advance to the Asia Cup final on September 28 in Dubai.
