During a recent media interaction England Test captain Ben Stokes revealed some really unknown facts about him. The 31-year-old opened up about his battle with mental issues.

Ben Stokes has been battling with anxiety and takes daily medications to cope up with his mental state.

For the unversed, Stokes had stepped away from cricket after the loss of his father. Ben was not with his father at his last moments as he was in India playing for the Indian Premiere League. This not only made the English Test captain hate the sport but he also endured a series of panic attacks, as he struggled to come to terms with his loss.

While opening up about the dark phase, Ben Stokes said that he had never thought medications would help him but at the same time Stokes neither felt embarrassed or ashamed consuming them nor while speaking about it.

While talking about his father’s demise Ben Stokes said, “the time of my father’s death I was seriously angry at cricket because it was dictating whether I could see my dad or not. ” Stokes said.

Throwing light on his current mental health, England Test captain said that now that he’s back playing doesn’t mean that he’s done with the medications. He still takes medicines everyday and is in regular contact with his doctor.

Ben Stokes also announced his retirement from One Day Internationals last month due to cricket’s relentless schedule. The 31-year-old felt he was unable to cater the demands of playing all three formats and hence, instead of blocking the way for some another young player, Stokes decided to prioritize his mental and physical heath.

He was last seen leading his team against India in the IND vs ENG decider Test match. Ben will be in action for the second Test match against South Africa. The match will be played at Old Trafford on this Thursday, the hosts are leading the three-match series by 1-0.

Fast bowler Akash Deep made a dream debut to his Test career on Friday as he picked up three crucial wickets in his first six overs, leaving England reeling after they had won the toss and elected to bat first in the fourth Test match against India at the JSCA stadium in Ranchi. Akash Deep was almost unplayable in the early part of the first session.

Captain Rohit Sharma handed Akash Deep the new ball from the other hand, and the right arm seamer impressed critics with his bowling. Akash Deep’s pace remained in the 130s and Jurel had to make quite a brilliant take off the third ball, which flew down the leg side of Duckett. He conceded just two runs off his first over.

He picked up the wicket of Zak Crawley in his second over, but the delivery was declared a no-ball by the umpire. He then picked up the wickets of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope afterwards and smashed Crawley’s off stump. This time it was a legitimate delivery and Crawley was sent back to the pavilion.
