The South African team batted for 37 overs in their second innings. The Indian team chased down the target in 12 overs, making for a total of 107.1 overs being bowled in Cape Town.

Day 1 witnessed a total of 23 wickets falling, making it a one of a kind anomaly. Mohammad Siraj delivered a spectacular performance with a six wicket haul, restricting the South African team to their lowest score of 55, having bowled out within the first hour itself. Mohammed Siraj registered his career best figures of 6/15 in nine overs.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar took two wickets each. India got off to decent start with captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made an important partnership. After their dismissals Virat Kohli sored 46 runs and took the team over the 150 run mark. But then the collapse started with Lungi Ngidi picking up three wickets in the 34th over, dismissing KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Siraj was then run out in the next over, before Kagiso Rabada joined the party and sent Kohli and Prasidh Krishna back to the pavilion bowling the vistors out for 153 runs.
