Pakistan opened their T20I series campaign in style with a commanding 37-run win over Bangladesh in Lahore on Wednesday. Fast bowler Hasan Ali delivered a match-defining performance, picking up his career-best figures of 5 for 30, while Shadab Khan’s late surge with the bat and useful bowling contributed significantly to Pakistan’s all-round dominance.
Early breakthroughs derail Bangladesh’s chase
Chasing a steep target of 202, Bangladesh lost opener Parvez Hossain Emon early, falling to Hasan Ali in just the fast bowler’s first over. Though Tanzid Hasan tried to counterattack with a few boundaries, Hasan dismissed him too, deceiving the batter with a clever knuckle ball.
The middle-order pairing of Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy attempted to repair the innings with a 63-run partnership for the third wicket. However, Pakistan’s bowlers kept the scoring under control. Shadab Khan removed Das for 48, and Khushdil Shah followed up by dismissing Hridoy, who managed only 17 off 22 balls.
As Bangladesh’s innings continued to stutter, wickets fell regularly. Shamim Hossain’s brief stay ended at four, sent back by Pakistan skipper Salman Agha. When Hasan Ali returned in the death overs, he struck twice in the 18th, removing the dangerous Jaker Ali (36 off 20) and Tanzim Hasan (1). He completed his five-wicket haul in the final over, as Bangladesh folded for 164.
Pakistan recover from early wobble to post 201
Pakistan’s batting effort was tested early when openers Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman were dismissed cheaply within the first two overs. Mohammad Haris and Salman Agha then stitched a crucial partnership to steady the innings, with Haris scoring 31 off 18 deliveries before being dismissed in the seventh over.
Salman carried on to notch a valuable 56, anchoring Pakistan’s innings. Following his dismissal, Hasan Nawaz exploded with a powerful 44 off just 22 balls, striking at an impressive 200 strike rate. His blitz gave Pakistan the momentum heading into the final overs.
The finishing touches came from Shadab Khan, who produced a flurry of boundaries in the 18th and 20th overs. His aggressive strokeplay ensured Pakistan crossed the 200-run mark, finishing at 201 in their allotted 20 overs.
With this victory, Pakistan take a 1-0 lead in the series, and will look to seal the series in the upcoming encounter.
