IND vs SL: Internet applauds Shivam Mavi’s brilliant spell at T20 debut, cricketer says was waiting for 6 years
Mavi said that he was in control during the match and was not nervous, because if a cricketer has played IPL then he knows what is his role.

Fast bowler Shivam Mavi bowled deadly in his T20 debut against Sri Lanka at Wankhede. He took four wickets for 22 runs in four overs. The cricketer was also seen getting emotional after this dream debut. He said that for the last six years he was waiting for this moment.
Apart from Mavi, Umran Malik and Harshal Patel took two wickets each. India had scored 162 runs, in response to which Sri Lanka’s team could only score 160 runs. The young pacer is being applauded not only by cricket fans but also several former and current players also haild his T20 debut.
During the post match presentation Mavi said that the landing zone was a bit slippery but he had to perform good as he was waiting for this moment for six years after playing the U-19 World Cup. “I have worked hard in those six years. Got hurt too. For a while it seemed like my dream would remain a dream, but I held on to it. After playing IPL, the nervousness has reduced a bit,” said Shivam Mavi on his dream T20 debut.

Mavi further added that he was in control during the match and was not nervous, because if a cricketer has played IPL then he knows what is his role. “The first wicket was my favourite,” said the pacer.
The 24-year-old Mavi first grabbed attention during the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. The fast bowler formed a lethal partnership with Kamlesh Nagarkoti in that tournament and helped Team India in becoming the champion. Shivam Mavi was later bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL the same year after a stellar performance in the Under-19 World Cup.
However, the road ahead was not an easy one as injury took a toll on his career. He went through a long rehab and slowly made a comeback. In the IPL 2023 auction, Mavi was bought by Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans for Rs 6 crore. After his stellar performance, has also become the costliest uncapped player of the IPL 2023 auction.

Asia Cup wrangle pits Sri Lanka Cricket Board against Pakistan Cricket Board
Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka in July to play two Tests of the next ICC World Test championship

The Pakistan Cricket Board and the Sri Lankan Cricket Board are not on the best of terms at the moment. The PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board for offering to host the Asia Cup and has refused to play a one-day international series in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka in July to play two Tests of the next ICC World Test championship. Apparently, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board had suggested that Pakistan play a few one-day international matches as they were positive the Sri Lankan team will book a spot for the ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Hence, they would need more exposure before the event in October.
The PCB had initially said that they would consider the offer but refused it later. This sends a clear message that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s proposal to host the Asia Cup as it was Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event.
PCB chief Najam Sethi was also upset with the response from the boards of Bangladesh and Afghanistan as well over the Asia Cup issue. Sethi had expected that Sri Lankan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan boards would convince the BCCI to go with the hybrid model as proposed by PCB.
The PCB chief did not refute media reports that the BCCI has rejected Sethi’s hybrid model and wants the tournament to be held in Sri Lanka. The bone of contention in the controversy is the Indian board is unlikely to send its team to play in Pakistan, though it has not formally announced the same, it has been making gestures to that effect.
A senior BCCI official said that there is absolutely no chance that Pakistan could hold the Asia Cup. The BCCI would like it if the ICC Champion’s Trophy is also moved out of Pakistan. According to reports, Sri Lanka was likely to hold the event. But the final decision will be made at the ACC meeting.
With strong relations between the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket, the BCCI wants the event to happen in Sri Lanka. At the next ACC meeting, the PCB chief will be conveyed the message.
