Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant been banned for one-match and a fined Rs INR 30 lakh for the slow over-rate offense, which is a breach of IPL Code of Conduct, committed by his team against Rajasthan Royals.

On May 07, 2024, during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, his team maintained a slow over-rate.

Pant will therefore be unable to play in Sunday’s pivotal against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. It should be mentioned that DC has still managed to maintain their chances of qualifying for the playoffs in the 17th season of Indian Premier League and that a loss would result in their elimination from the tournament.

The BCCI said in a statement, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal contesting the Match Referee’s decision in accordance with Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The appeal was then sent to the BCCI Ombudsman for assessment after that. The Ombudsman had a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision is still final and enforceable, the BCCI said in a press release.

In a crucial match against CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on May 10, GT captain Shubman Gil was fined Rs 24 lakh for his team’s second-ever slow over-rate. Shubman will be fined 25% of his match fees as penalty for violating a recently introduced, very important code of conduct, according to a statement made by the Board of Cricket Council (BCCI).

In addition to Shubman, the impact player who played against CSK and the other members of the GT Playing XI will also be fined up to a total of Rs 6 lakh, or 25 percent of their individual match fees, whichever is less.

This was GT’s second slow over-rate offense in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The first occurred on March 26 in the rematch against CSK and resulted in Shubman being fined Rs 12 lakh. A franchise captain may be suspended for one match if his team is deemed to have maintained a slow over-rate in three consecutive matches throughout a season, as per the rules established by the Indian Premier League and the BCCI.

Gill was fined INR 24 lakh because it was his team’s second fault of the season pertaining to minimum over rate violations under the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Each member of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, received a fine of INR 6 lakh or 25% of their respective match costs, whichever was lower, according to a statement released by the BCCI and IPL.

Meanwhile, Before restricting CSK to 196 for eight, Gill and BSai Sudharsan made hundreds in GT’s total of 231 for three.

With 10 points from 12 games, the Titans are currently in 8th in the standings, while CSK, despite the loss, is still in 4th place with 12 points from 12 games.

In Gujarat’s 231 for 3, which was close to reaching 260 runs, Gill, who struck 104 off 55 balls, and fellow centurion B Sai Sudharsan (103 off 51 balls) established a 210-run opening partnership.

CSK ultimately received a score of 196, while Gujarat’s NRR decreased to -1.063. With a maximum likelihood of earning 14 points from their remaining 12 games, they have 10 points, which may not be enough to qualify for the playoffs.

India’s star pace bowler Mohammed Shami has taken exception to the animated chat between Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka and captain KL Rahul, which has gone viral on social media. In the video, Sanjiv Goenka can be seen upset with KL Rahul after Sun Risers Hyderabad beat Lucknow Super Giants by 10 wickets. Mohammed Shami said that LSG team owner’s behaviour is a matter of shame, and the same thing could have been done in the dressing room or the hotel.

Mohammad Shami spoke to the media where he said players have respect, and the LSG Owner is a respectful person, too. He added many people are watching him and learning from him. He said such behaviour in public domain is a matter of shame… ye sharam ki baat hai.

The star pacer said if Goenka had to do it, then there are many different ways. He could’ve done the same thing in the dressing room or the hotel. It was not necessary at all to do it on the field in front of the media. Aise reaction dekar laal qile pe jhanda toh gaada nahi hai aapne (He did not prove anything by behaving in such manner).

Mohammed Shami said that cricket is an unpredictable game and anything is possible.  He pointed out that KL Rahul is the captain of the team and is not a regular player and such behaviour in public domain sends a wrong message. He further added that cricket is a team game and he cannot blame one player.

According to reports speculations are high that KL Rahul may leave Lucknow Super Giants after the 17th season. Meanwhile, LSG are still in the hunt for the playoffs as the team has collected 12 points from 12 games and they need to win their remaining matches to play in the next round.
