Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni underwent a knee surgery on Thursday, after he was seen battling with a knee problem in the 16th season of the recently held IPL.

The CSK captain used to land in every match by tying a bandage around his knee and was batting lower down the order during the IPL 2023.

According to media reports, Dhoni was at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute on May 31, Wednesday, where he was admitted for his knee surgery and at 8 am on Thursday, the operation concluded successfully.

During this period, Dhoni met Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is a specialist in sports orthopedics as well as the director of sports medicine at the hospital. He is the same doctor treating Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant. Pardiwala also operated on Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra in 2019.

Last year at the end of December, Pant had a terrible accident near Uttarakhand’s Roorkee, while he was driving his car.

After his successful knee surgery, MS Dhoni was spotted in Mumbai, the picture is viral across the internet, spreading happiness to his fans.

In the viral picture, the former Indian cricket team captain can be seen sharing a South Indian meal with another person sitting next to him.

Before travelling to Mumbai, Dhoni talked to the management of the Chennai Super Kings explaining about his condition and the franchise sent its official team physician Dr. Madhu Thottappili to accompany Dhoni to Mumbai. Earlier on Wednesday, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kashi Vishwanathan was also informed about Dhoni’s injury.

During the 16th edition of the IPL, one question that almost every cricket fan asked was about MS Dhoni’s future with CSK. To this, the Chennai CEO refuting any speculations said the team is not thinking in that direction as it has not reached that stage and it will entirely be Dhoni’s call, the team has not given a thought about it.

Dhoni, who quit international cricket on August 15, 2020, said after this year’s IPL final, he would take a call on his availability for the next edition of the tournament before the auctions.

Asia Cup wrangle pits Sri Lanka Cricket Board against Pakistan Cricket Board

The Pakistan Cricket Board and the Sri Lankan Cricket Board are not on the best of terms at the moment. The PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board for offering to host the Asia Cup and has refused to play a one-day international series in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka in July to play two Tests of the next ICC World Test championship. Apparently, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board had suggested that Pakistan play a few one-day international matches as they were positive the Sri Lankan team will book a spot for the ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Hence, they would need more exposure before the event in October.

The PCB had initially said that they would consider the offer but refused it later. This sends a clear message that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board’s proposal to host the Asia Cup as it was Pakistan’s turn to host the regional event.

PCB chief Najam Sethi was also upset with the response from the boards of Bangladesh and Afghanistan as well over the Asia Cup issue. Sethi had expected that Sri Lankan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan boards would convince the BCCI to go with the hybrid model as proposed by PCB.

The PCB chief did not refute media reports that the BCCI has rejected Sethi’s hybrid model and wants the tournament to be held in Sri Lanka. The bone of contention in the controversy is the Indian board is unlikely to send its team to play in Pakistan, though it has not formally announced the same, it has been making gestures to that effect.

A senior BCCI official said that there is absolutely no chance that Pakistan could hold the Asia Cup. The BCCI would like it if the ICC Champion’s Trophy is also moved out of Pakistan. According to reports, Sri Lanka was likely to hold the event. But the final decision will be made at the ACC meeting.

With strong relations between the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket, the BCCI wants the event to happen in Sri Lanka. At the next ACC meeting, the PCB chief will be conveyed the message.
