Australian spin legend Shane Warne has died at the age of 52. He is said to have died of a suspected heart attack in Thailand. This is the second death in two days for Australian cricket. Former wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh died earlier today.

According to a statement released by Warne’s management Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and he could not be revived. The family has requested privacy and will provide details in due course.

Warne is credited with the Ball of the Century when he bowled English captain Mike Gatting in the first Ashes Test of 1993 at Old Trafford. The ball so bamboozled Gatting it is worth a watch to realise the talent of Warne.

That magic didn’t translate into success on the pitches of India. He bagged 708 wickets in a Test career spanning from 1992 to 2007 and got almost 300 wickets in ODIs. Warne led the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League for a couple of seasons. A man not known to shirk controversies, Warne had been seen with Bold and the Beautiful including Hollywood actor of British origin Elizabeth Hurley.
Shane Warne is survived by his three children.

Condolences poured in from the cricket fraternity after Shane Warne’s death. Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane tweeted that he is shocked to hear about Shane Warne’s departure. He also wrote that he had shared some wonderful years with him during the start of his career.

Irfan Pathan wrote that Shane Warne was a crowd puller and a magician with the ball. He will be remembered forever, Irfan added.

Former Indian cricket captain Kris Srikkanth condoled Warne’s death and wrote that he was one of the greatest wrist spinners to ever grace the game.

Shoaib Akhtar released a video and wrote that it will take a long time to get over this loss.
