Former Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who is currently playing in Legends Premier League in Dubai, on Monday claimed that Virat Kohli’s marriage affected his career. He should have married after scoring 120 centuries, he said.
He would not have married now if he had been in Virat’s place, Akhtar said.
Speaking with ANI, Akhtar said if he was in India, he had been a fast bowler and would not have married. He would focus on his cricket. That was Kohli’s personal decision. If someone asked him, he would have focused on his cricket, he said.
Akhtar claimed that Virat Kohli was forced to leave the captaincy of India. The time has come for him to prove what he is made of. Is he made of steel or iron? he said.
Akhtar also suggested Kohli that do not try too many things, just go out there and play his natural game. He is a great batsman and has achieved more than anyone else in the world, the former speedster said.
He also backed Rohit Sharma for team India’s Test captaincy. Rohit Sharma would be the right choice for the time being. It’s good if he doesn’t succumb to this pressure, Akhtar said.
Pakistan will beat India again in Melbourne. Pakistan is a better side than India in T20I. It’s the Indian media that make unnecessary pressure on their team during India-Pakistan match, it’s normal for India to lose, said Akhtar.
His statement comes after ICC’s announcement for the upcoming T20 World Cup in which India will face its arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening encounters on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Last year, Kohli had stepped down as the T20I captain and then he was removed as the ODI captaincy. He stepped down as India’s Test captain after leading the side for seven years.
