Yakov Trenin and newcomer Vinnie Hinostroza scored for the Minnesota Wild, helping the team break a two-game losing streak. Conversely, the Carolina Hurricanes, who have lost three consecutive games, received a goal from Sebastian Aho and saw Frederik Andersen make 22 saves.

Trenin started the scoring at 2:55 in the first period, giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead. Marat Khusnutdinov chased down a clearing pass from Zach Bogosian along the right side, managing to outpace Carolina defenseman Jalen Chatfield and retrieve the puck in the right face-off circle. With a quick move, Khusnutdinov spun past Chatfield to set up Trenin, who slid the puck under Andersen’s left pad to put the Wild on the board.

Throughout the opening period, the Hurricanes relentlessly pressured Minnesota, outshooting them 15-7 by the end of the first 20 minutes, with an impressive 11-3 shot advantage halfway through.

In the second period, rookie Jackson Blake had a chance to equalize for Carolina with 12:05 remaining when he was awarded his first career penalty shot. The 21-year-old skated in from the right side before cutting toward the middle, but he lost control of the puck just as he reached the front of the net. Minnesota goalie Gustavsson quickly extended his right pad to prevent the puck from trickling into the goal.

The third period saw a strong start for Minnesota, as they capitalized less than a minute in to extend their lead to 2-0. Jared Spurgeon’s shot from the point hit the right post and deflected off Andersen’s left arm, landing behind the goalie. As Andersen attempted to cover it, Hinostroza, who had been claimed off waivers from the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, managed to poke the puck over the goal line.

The Hurricanes found a response at 17:12 when Aho scored to cut the deficit to 2-1. Seth Jarvis sent a blind backhand pass from the goal line to Aho in the slot. The puck deflected off Andrei Svechnikov’s stick before reaching Aho, who spun and fired a shot to the stick side of the net. Despite their efforts, Carolina couldn’t find another goal, sealing the victory for Minnesota.
