Virat Kohli

Former Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli’s stellar performance in Asia Cup 2022 was not enough for BCCI as reports suggest that the selectors are uncertain about keeping Virat Kohli in the T20I format after the Asia cup 2022. The reason cited for this is because of his age as he might become prone to injuries going further. Not only Kohli but also all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, is subjected to a similar vision.

According to reports, regardless of the result of the T20 World Cup, Kohli and Jadeja’s future will remain in the dither. The revaluation of these players’ future is set to happen due to several reasons.

One of the reasons would have a lot to do with their aging which will result in them being more prone to injuries. Hence, playing all 3 formats will increase the chances of a serious injury to the players. The other reason is the large pressure of the 2023 ODI World Cup coming up sooner than expected.

Hence, with the 2023 ODI world cup approaching, team India would want to keep these experienced stars in high confidence and full fitness, for them to deliver.

Reports also claim that the opener and skipper for the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma, will retain his captain’s band for the 2023 world cup.

The BCCI official told the media that the BCCI has made it clear that Rohit Sharma will retain the captaincy of all three formats till the 2023 World Cup. After his term, the BCCI will hold a discussion if needed. The officials also emphasized how Rohit is approaching his 36 yet leading India in all three formats might be a tolling responsibility of the player.

As per Virat, the official said that if Virat does not echo BCCI’s vision for him to step down, then the BCCI would have to hold a discussion with the player.

Virat in his Asia Cup 2022 campaign was able to prove his critics wrong as he went on to score his first century in the T20I format, and in doing so he also achieved the 71st career century mark. Virat was the leading scorer for team India in the Asia Cup 2022.
