Virat Kohli scripts history, becomes first batsman to score 4,000 in T20 Internationals

Virat Kohli has made history by becoming the first player ever to score 4,000 runs in T20 Internationals. In the second T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final match against England in Adelaide on Thursday, Kohli achieved this milestone.

The second semi-final of the T20 World Cup is being played between India and England at the Adelaide ground. England captain Jos Buttler has won the toss and has opted to bowl first. Ben Stokes opened the bowling in place of the injured Mark Wood. KL Rahul hits a four off the very first ball. After this, in the second over itself, he was out on the ball of Chris Woakes. At the same time, Virat Kohli has become the first batsman in the world to touch the mark of 4,000 runs in T20Is.

Earlier, Kohli surpassed Mahela Jayawardene’s 2014 record of 1,016 runs to become the all-time greatest run scorer in men’s T20 World Cup matches against Bangladesh in Adelaide. In the 15th over of India’s innings, Kohli required 42 runs to attain the milestone of 4,000 T20I runs and did so with a boundary off Adil Rashid.

The only male cricketer to receive Player of the Tournament honours in both the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups was Kohli. Additionally, Kohli has scored the most runs in T20I cricket history. He is listed ahead of Paul Stirling, Martin Guptill, Babar Azam, and skipper Rohit Sharma. At the moment, Kohli has a strike rate of about 140 and an average of over 50.

With almost 270 runs in 6 games of the T20 World Cup 2022, Kohli is also the leading scorer. Despite Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul’s struggles to consistently get going, the great batsman has served as India’s batting line-up-anchor. With an incredible 53-ball 82 not out in India’s Super 12 debut against Pakistan in Melbourne, Kohli helped his team out of trouble. He continued in fine form throughout the competition, scoring two more fifty-plus scores.
