Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who is currently in India on paternity leave, condemned the incidents of racial abuse by members of the crowd against Indian cricket team pacer Mohammed Siraj during the Day 4 of the Sydney Test on Sunday. Kohli has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Cricket Australia to probe the unfortunate incident with absolute urgency.

In a series of tweets, Kohli Condemned the incident of racial abuse against Siraj and called the incident absolutely unacceptable. He tweeted that he has gone through many incidents of really pathetic things said on the boundary lines but it is the absolute peak of rowdy behavior. It’s very sad to see this happen on the field.

In another tweet Kohli said the incident needs to be addressed with an absolute urgency and strict action against the offenders should set things straight for once.

Also, the Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin alleged that he has faced racial abuse from a section of crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground during his previous trips to Australia as well. Talking to the reporters, Ashwin demanded strict action against the repeat offenders at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He said he was surprised that a few supporters at SCG went on with their racist taunts even after India lodged an official complaint on Saturday.

Racism has no place in our great sport or in any walk of society. I’ve spoken to @CricketAus and they have ensured strict action against the offenders. @BCCI and Cricket Australia stand together. These acts of discrimination will not be tolerated. @SGanguly99 @ThakurArunS

Another Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh also took to Twitter and urged to stop racism. He tweeted that he was racially abused about his religion and colour during match on previous Australia tours. He said this isn’t the first time the crowd is doing this nonsense.

On Day 4, a group of six spectators were ejected from the Sydney Cricket Ground after India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj complained of abuse. The incident came a day after India lodged a formal complaint with Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj alleging racial abuse from the crowd. After the complaint, the security personnel decided to enter the stands and look for the mischief monger before a group of people was asked to leave the stadium.

Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security said in an official statement that the Cricket Australia is awaiting the International Cricket Council’s investigation into the racial abuse matter. The International Cricket Council on Sunday condemned the alleged incidents of racism and asked Cricket Australia for an action taken report. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia apologised to Team India after the incident and said anyone who engages in racist abuse is not welcome in Australian cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah added another milestone to his international career on Thursday after taking the field for India against Sri Lanka in the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket semifinal in Japan.

Bumrah’s appearance at Nishin made him the first Indian to play T20I cricket in 13 different countries, according to the report. He moved ahead of former India captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who have each played T20Is in 12 countries.

Bumrah’s 13-country T20I record

Before playing in Japan, Bumrah had represented India in T20Is in 12 other countries — India, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the UAE, the United States, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

His appearance in Japan took the tally to 13. Kohli, Rohit and Bhuvneshwar had played in all of those countries except Japan, leaving Bumrah alone at the top of the list.

Kohli and Rohit cannot add to their totals as both have retired from T20I cricket, according to the source.

Bumrah shines against Sri Lanka

Bumrah also made an immediate impact in his first T20I appearance in Japan. He claimed two wickets in his opening over against Sri Lanka and finished with figures of 2/7 in two overs.

India went on to dismiss Sri Lanka for 45 in 9.5 overs and won the semifinal by 124 runs to book a place in the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket final.

The result set up an India-Pakistan gold-medal clash, scheduled for October 3.

Jasprit Bumrah has become the first Indian to play T20I cricket in 13 different countries. His appearance against Sri Lanka in Japan took him past Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who have played T20Is in 12 countries each.
