Umar Khalid has been in jail since September 2020 after he and several others were booked for erupting violence during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

In one of the cases connected to the 2020 riots, Delhi’s Karkardooma court acquitted Khalid and other United Against Hate member Khalid Saifi earlier this month. In this case, the two were released on bail, but they were required to stay in jail in connection with other cases.

The Delhi High Court rejected Khalid’s request for bail in October, stating that the anti-CAA and NRC protests were prima facie planned during various conspiracy meetings that Khalid had attended.

They went to the speaker’s office with the party president in tow, where nine MPs tendered their resignation. Kirori Lal Meena, the 10th MP, tendered his resignation to the chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

The fourth minister the BJP fielded in the state elections, Faggan Singh Kulaste, is the minister of state for steel and rural development, however he was unable to win the assembly seat.

These Members of Parliament are expected to tender their resignations, and there have been rumours of a potential reorganisation within the Union Council of Ministers.

After a lot of rain and flooding, Chennai came to a complete stop. The city was one of the worst hit areas by the cyclone, with 17 fatalities connected to rain-related mishaps.

According to Greater Chennai Police, up to ten cases of electrocution and drowning have been reported, and medical attention has been given.
