A man from Rajasthan’s Jodhpur has married a Pakistani woman virtually. According to reports, the couple decided to marry virtually as the woman who hails from Karachi, Pakistan failed to get the Indian visa on time due to some issues.

All the rituals of marriage were performed virtually and a Qazi solemnised the marriage and the bride present in Karachi said Qabool Hai. Arbaaz, the younger son of contractor Mohammad Afzal, who lives in Jodhpur, got married to a Pakistani woman, Ameena.

The ceremony was done online on Wednesday. In this unique wedding, the family members of Arbaaz and Ameena performed online rituals. Both families were connected through video conference.

Qazis from both India and Pakistan officiated the Nikah, and family members and relatives from both sides participated in the special event.

In Jodhpur, they displayed the entire wedding on LED screens for the groom’s relatives to witness.

After the marriage, Arbaaz stated that they would soon apply for a visa for the newly-wed bride’s entry into India. Their relatives are in Pakistan. This is an arranged marriage through relatives. We were compelled to conduct it online due to the strained relations between the two countries at present. It will take a considerable amount of time to obtain a visa. That’s why we decided to conduct it virtually, Arbaaz said.

Arbaaz further explained that if he and his fiance were to get married in Pakistan, their marriage would not be legally recognized in India. This means that they would have to return to Pakistan for the official wedding. To avoid this, they plan to apply for an Indian Nikahnama visa.

Arbaaz’s father was also excited for his son’s fiance to arrive and the family plans to welcome her warmly. Afzal believes that online marriages are a great option for ordinary families. They reduce expenses while still fulfilling the customs associated with matrimony. He also noted that the bride’s family is simple and the marriage did not cost a lot.

Arbaaz disclosed that his marriage was arranged by his family and the bride’s family. Interestingly, one of Arbaaz’s relatives is married to another woman from Ameena’s family.

Earlier, people have also witnessed other cross-border couples Sachin-Seema Haider and Anju-Nasrullah who continue to make headlines.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pralhad Joshi has been given additional charge of the Ministry of Education following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan amid protests over alleged exam paper leaks.

A seasoned parliamentarian and organisation leader, Joshi is regarded as one of the BJP’s experienced faces, having played key roles in both the party’s organisational structure and the Union government over the years.

A political journey rooted in student leadership

Pralhad Joshi began his public life through student politics before becoming actively involved in the BJP’s organisational work in Karnataka.

Over the years, he emerged as a prominent leader in the state and was elected multiple times as the Member of Parliament from Karnataka’s Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency. He also served as the BJP’s Karnataka unit president, strengthening the party’s presence in the state.

His national political profile grew further after he was re-elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014, when the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, formed the government at the Centre.

Experience across key ministries

Joshi currently serves as the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy. In previous terms, he has also handled important portfolios including Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs.

His long-standing association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and his experience in parliamentary affairs have made him one of the BJP’s trusted leaders.

Education Ministry responsibility

Joshi takes charge of the Education Ministry after Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down from the post amid protests over alleged examination paper leaks.

A day before receiving the additional responsibility, Joshi had defended the Centre’s approach to the ongoing student protests. Speaking to reporters in Delhi, he said the government remained committed to safeguarding students’ interests and alleged that “anti-social elements” were trying to take advantage of the CJP-led agitation.

He also said the Modi government was committed to taking strict action against any irregularities affecting students and reaffirmed its focus on strengthening the education system and protecting the future of young people.
