After captaining the Indian team for more than 7 years, BCCI on December 8 sacked Virat Kohli from the role of ODI captaincy and named Rohit Sharma as the new captain of the ODI.
The BCCI announced this news along with the announcement of the Indian Test squad for the South Africa tour, where team India is supposed to play a three-test match series from December 26. The All Indian Senior Selection Committee of BCCI also announced Rohit as the vice-captain of the Test team, replacing Ajinkya Rahane from the post.
Earlier this year before the 2021 T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli had announced that he will be stepping down from the captaincy after the completion of the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma was named as the new captain to lead the team in T20 format.
