Laal Singh Chaddha review

Bollywood’s highly-anticipated film Laal Singh Chaddha, which created quite a stir on social media, was released on August 11. It is the adaptation of the Academy-winning film Forrest Gump featuring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Mona Singh in the lead roles.

Before the release of Laal Singh Chaddha, social media users called and are still calling for its boycott for several reasons. However, despite the cancel culture, the film hit the silver screen on Friday.

Helmed by Advait Chandan, Laal Singh Chaddha also features Naga Chaitanya in an important role.

The film is already out and so are the reviews. Here’s a look at what leading news websites have to say about Laal Singh Chaddha.

Laal Singh Chaddha review by NDTV

Reviewed by Saibal Chatterjee, Laal Singh Chaddha got 3 out of 5 stars by NDTV. For Chatterjee, the Aamir Khan starrer is watchable and flaws notwithstanding.

“Laal Singh Chaddha, the sophomore venture of director Advait Chandan (Secret Superstar), places the protagonist against the backdrop of major political developments of contemporary Indian history from the lifting of the Emergency in 1977 to the Anna Hazare anti-corruption movement of 2011,” reviewed NDTV.

Laal Singh Chaddha review by The Hindu

Anuj Kumar, in his review, said Advait Chandan’s film hardly asks any tough questions, almost tutors the audience, and doesn’t allow the visuals to communicate. The headline read, ‘Aamir Khan valiantly runs towards safety.’

“Advait is competent but is like that efficient factory worker who has to make a new product from an old dye. One wonders whether Raj Kumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi would have been a better choice to bring Forrest closer home,” reviewed The Hindu.

Laal Singh Chaddha review by The Indian Express

Shubhra Gupta, in her review, said it’s not just the pace of the film which is the trouble but it is also centrally and crucially, Sardar Laal Singh Chaddha himself, as played by Aamir Khan. The leading daily gave 2 out of 5 stars to Forrest Gump’s adaptation.

“Aamir Khan falls back on easy crutches in a meandering tale,” reviewed The Indian Express.

Laal Singh Chaddha review by Times of India

Giving out 3.5 stars out of 5 to Laal Singh Chaddha, Renuka Vyavahare, in her review, said the film verbalises Forrest Gump’s musings on life, love, morality, and destiny.

“It opts for speech over silent tears so expect a perpetually wide-eyed Aamir Khan doing a lot of Punjabi accent with PK’s body language and enthusiasm. He sets the tempo of this film a bit higher, that of a big-ticket Hindi feature film but retains the essence of the original — a Disney-like fairy-tale without the luxury of magic but an ingrained belief in miracles,” reviewed Times of India.

Laal Singh Chaddha review by Pinkvilla

Avinash Lohana gave 3 stars out of 5 to Laal Singh Chaddha and wrote that Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, and Naga Chaitanya’s film has its heart in the right place.

“Considering the stature of the original, it’s hard to not compare Laal Singh Chaddha with Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. But even after that, Aamir Khan and his team manage to live up to the original and present an entertaining watch. Those who will be seeing it as a standalone film will be pleasantly surprised,” reviewed Pinkvilla.

Laal Singh Chaddha by India Today

Nairita Mukherjee, in her review, said the worst thing about Laal Singh Chaddha is Aamir Khan.

“The method actor who made method acting common parlance now resorts to grunts and more grunts in his reinterpretation of Forrest Gump, a role synonymous with Tom Hanks from the film of the same name,” reviewed India Today.

Ram Charan’s Peddi opens to mixed reviews despite strong performances and music

Peddi has received mixed reviews, with Ram Charan’s performance and AR Rahman’s music earning praise while criticism has focused on the film’s screenplay and writing.

Peddi movie review

Ram Charan’s much-awaited Telugu sports drama Peddi hit theatres on June 4 and has generated significant discussion among critics and audiences. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, the film marks Charan’s return to the big screen in a rural sports-based story that combines action, emotion and village politics.

Early reviews have highlighted Ram Charan’s committed performance as one of the film’s strongest assets. Critics have particularly appreciated his transformation and screen presence, with many describing the role as one that allows the actor to showcase both emotional depth and mass appeal.

Another aspect receiving widespread praise is the music and background score composed by A. R. Rahman. Several reviewers and audience members have pointed to the soundtrack and score as key elements that elevate important moments throughout the film.

However, reviews have been more divided on the film’s writing. Critics have argued that while the film contains emotionally effective sequences and well-mounted sports moments, the screenplay often follows familiar genre conventions and lacks the consistency needed to fully realise its ambitions.

The film also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu and Boman Irani in important roles. Audience reactions on social media have generally described the film as an entertaining watch despite its shortcomings, with praise directed at the performances and technical departments.

Despite the mixed critical response, Peddi has opened strongly at the box office, supported by robust advance bookings and enthusiastic fan celebrations across Telugu-speaking regions.

Indian cinema enthusiasts are in for an unexpected treat as the highly anticipated unfiltered version of the blockbuster film Dhurandhar is officially heading to digital platforms. In a surprising double-platform strategy, the raw and uncut cut of the action-packed movie is scheduled to begin streaming on both Netflix India and JioHotstar.

The sudden announcement from the streaming platforms has sparked significant buzz across social media.
