Amit Mishra has the perfect reply to Shahid Afridi asking Virat Kohli to retire from international cricket

Afridi said that Kohli is a champion and he believes there comes a stage when a cricketer heads towards retirement. But in such scenarios, the aim should be to leave on a high.

Former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra has once again slammed ex-Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi for coming up with something illogical. While the nation was waiting for Kohli to come back in form and hit his 71st century, and now that he’s achieved this milestone, Shahid Afridi has advised Virat Kohli to retire soon.

Seems like this did not go well with Amit Mishra as he took to his Twitter and slammed Afridi by writing, “Dear Afridi, some people retire only once so please spare Virat Kohli from all this.” For the unversed, Virat Kohli was going through a rough patch as he scored his last century against Bangladesh in 2019.

However, he did score some 70s and 60s but his fans were waiting for his next century for more than three years. While everyone expected it to come in Test or ODIs, Kohli took everyone by surprise by scoring his 71st century in T20 format, during the Asia Cup 2022. This was Virat’s maiden T20I hundred.

While talking about the same, Shahid Afridi said that the way Virat Kohli played during the start of his career, was also the same as there were struggles initially. But later on he went ahead and made a name for himself. Afridi further added that Kohli is a champion and he believes there comes a stage when a cricketer heads towards retirement. But in such scenarios, the aim should be to leave on a high.

Shahid Afridi went ahead and said such decisions shouldn’t be taken after Kohli reaches a stage where he’s dropped from the team but instead should think about it when he’s on the peak. “Very few players and especially Asian cricketers make that decision, but I feel when Virat does it, he should do it in style and probably in the same manner in which he started his career,” the former Pakistani all-rounder added.
