Cops probe posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with tag 'The Lie Lama'

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Delhi police have registered a case for defacing boundary walls by pasting posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi carrying the tagline “The Lie Lama”, a sarcastic take giving a name that rhymes with ‘Dalai Lama’, the Tibetan spiritual leader.

The case has been registered against unknown persons and the complainant’s identity has also not been revealed by the police, said media reports.

“After learning that such posters had been plastered on a wall in Mandir Marg near Connaught Place and two other places, we immediately alerted our police team,” a senior IPS officer posted at Delhi police’s headquarters was quoted as saying in media reports.

The cops are probing the case to identify those who pasted the posters. Images of the posters went viral on social media on Thursday afternoon.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]While most of such posters were from Delhi, some Twitter users said similar posters were seen in Karnataka too.

Karnataka is voting today, Saturday, May 12 and the posters, showing a smiling Modi with his hands folded, come at a time the PM has been accused of making several incorrect comments and historically wrong statements during the Karnataka election campaign that ended on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Modi had alleged that Congress leaders had not visited freedom fighters Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt in jail. The Congress replied by citing historical documents that refer to Jawaharlal Nehru and other senior party leaders visiting Bhagat Singh in prison.

“Go and read history before misusing it for politics. Nehru not only met them in prison but also wrote about them. Several Congress leaders defied Gandhi to speak for them,” historian S. Speaking at an election rally in Kalaburgi, Prime Minister Modi said “Karnataka is synonymous with valour. But, how did the Congress Govts treat Field Marshall Cariappa and General Thimayya? History is proof of that. In 1948 after defeating Pakistan, General Thimayya was insulted by PM Nehru and Defence Minister Krishna Menon.”

Many including historians and pandits pointed out the factual inaccuracies in the statement.

Krishna Menon was Defence Minister from April 1957 to October 1962. General Thimayya was Army Chief from May 1957 to May 1961.

‘Sonia and Rahul didn’t congratulate Kovind, a Dalit, on becoming President’

On May 6th, addressing a rally in Bagalkot of Karnataka, Modi said, “The arrogance of Congress party is at its peak, a Dalit mother’s child, raised in a village became the President (Ram Nath Kovind), and it should have been their responsibility to make a courtesy call, but they did not like it. It has been a year, but Madam Soniaji did not get time to make a courtesy call to the President, his Prince (Rahul Gandhi) met the President seven months later and that too to hand over a memorandum.”

The fact of the matter is both Sonia and Rahul congratulated Ramnath Kovind on his election victory, on the day of the result itself.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]’Sonia, Rahul did not congratulate BJP on 2014 election win’

Addressing a rally in Bagalkot on May 6th PM Modi said “It has been the tradition that those who lose in elections accept the defeat and the peaceful transfer of power. But after 2014 Lok Sabha election results, Congress politicians, the mother and son, did not even have the courtesy to congratulate the party that won,” he said, referring to then Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

In fact, both Sonia and Rahul had congratulated the BJP and the then Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi on the election victory, even before all the results were officially out.

As PM Modi took to hectic campaigning in the final phase, such statements came fast, one after the other, exposing him to attacks. The posters appeared soon after.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Delhi High Court denies interim relief to Telegram in challenge against NEET-related ban

Telegram did not receive interim relief from the Delhi High Court in its challenge to the Centre’s temporary restriction imposed before the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination.

Delhi High Court issues notice to the Centre but does not stay the temporary restriction imposed ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination.

Messaging platform Telegram has not received interim relief from the Delhi High Court in its challenge to the Centre’s temporary restriction on the app ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination.

The court issued notice to the Union government and agreed to hear the matter, but did not pass any immediate order suspending the restriction. The temporary curbs were imposed until June 22 as part of measures aimed at preventing exam-related fraud and the circulation of fake paper leak claims before the June 21 re-test.

Telegram has argued that the restriction affects millions of users and is disproportionate to the alleged misuse by a small number of individuals. The company has also questioned the legality and procedure followed while imposing the restriction.

During the proceedings, the Centre defended its decision, maintaining that the measure was necessary to protect the integrity of the high-stakes medical entrance examination. Government representatives argued that Telegram had been used to spread leaked exam material, misinformation and fraudulent claims linked to the examination process.

The court sought the Centre’s response and scheduled further consideration of the matter. Until a final decision is reached, the temporary restriction remains in effect.

The dispute comes amid heightened scrutiny of examination security following the cancellation of the original NEET-UG 2026 exam and the decision to conduct a re-examination for affected candidates.

IT stocks drag markets lower as Accenture outlook sparks selloff

A sharp selloff in IT stocks after Accenture’s weak outlook weighed on Indian markets, pushing Sensex and Nifty lower while major technology shares recorded significant losses.

Published

on

Indian equity benchmarks came under pressure on Friday as a sharp decline in information technology stocks erased a portion of the gains made during the recent market rally. Weak guidance from global technology services giant Accenture triggered concerns about demand trends in the IT sector, leading to broad-based selling across major Indian technology companies.

The benchmark Sensex and Nifty opened lower, while the Nifty IT index emerged as the worst-performing sectoral gauge of the day. Shares of major IT firms, including TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCLTech, witnessed steep declines as investors reacted to concerns over slowing technology spending and limited visibility on future demand.

Accenture guidance rattles investor confidence

Market sentiment weakened after Accenture reported quarterly results and revised its revenue outlook, citing softer demand conditions. The development raised concerns about the broader global technology services industry, particularly for Indian IT companies that derive a significant portion of their revenue from overseas clients.

Analysts noted that Accenture’s cautious commentary added to existing worries about discretionary technology spending and delayed client decision-making. The company’s outlook is often viewed as an indicator of global demand trends for IT services.

Nifty IT sees sharp decline

The Nifty IT index dropped more than 5%, with all constituent stocks trading in negative territory. TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCLTech were among the major laggards, falling between roughly 3% and 8% during trading.

The weakness in technology shares also weighed on broader market sentiment, ending the momentum seen in recent sessions. Investors turned cautious amid concerns about global growth, technology spending trends and earnings visibility for export-focused IT companies.

Broader market under pressure

Apart from the IT selloff, analysts pointed to profit-booking after the recent rally, weaker global cues and risk aversion among investors as additional factors behind the market decline. Mid-cap and small-cap indices also traded lower, reflecting broader weakness across sectors.
