Nigerian filmmaker uses AI on elderly people, fashion transformation impresses social media users

Published

It is often said that being fashionable and going with the latest trend only suits younger people. As people grow old, they are expected to have a simple choice of dressing sense. In order to break the stereotype thinking, a famous Nigerian filmmaker did a unique experiment using artificial intelligence on elderly people, trying to make them look standout on a ramp, leaving many social media users speechless.

Filmmaker Malik Afegbua also shared some of the AI-made images on Instagram, where he made elderly people made not less than a supermodel. His AI photo collection named Fashion Show For Seniors also grabbed the attention of Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth Carter. He appreciated his experiment by leaving a comment under the post.

Afegbua told the media that the only reason he experimented with elderly people was that he wanted to break the stereotypical thinking of the young generation as they think fashion only belongs to them only. the filmmaker also revealed that he has never seen any fashion show for elderly people, which even forced him harder to create such a piece.

When asked, if he could have used real people instead artificial ones, he replied and said that the practice has been taken just to spread an aspirational message behind the images which is more crucial rather organizing a real fashion show.

The AI images that are created by him show some African origin elderly people dressed in fashionable clothes as they were seen doing a ramp walk. One of the elderly men was seen in the photo wearing a pink suit, pairing it with a yellow shirt and scarf. While another female elderly model was seen wearing Nigerian traditional clothes with a big head scarf on her head.

Ever since the post was shared on the internet, it has gained thousands of likes in no time. While many social media users appreciated his idea, some slammed him for not using real people.
