The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly strangling his 26-year-old wife and chopping up her body, reported TOI. Two of his brothers were also arrested for assisting him to dispose of the woman’s body.
The police have identified the woman’s husband as Sajid Ali Ansari, a mechanical engineer from a University in Kurukshetra.
The police have said the three men – Sajid Ali Ansari, Hasmat Ali Ansari, and Mohammad Ishtiaq – are all natives of Chhapra in Bihar. Her body was found chopped into seven pieces and stuffed in a cardboard box on a vacant plot in Jasola Vihar the next day.
There was a sticker bearing the name of a Gurugram-based moving company on the carton in which the chopped body parts of a 26-year-old woman, now identified as Juhi, a graduate in psychology, was found in southeast Delhi on June 21. The sticker proved a vital clue.
Ansari allegedly killed Juhi after a fight, said a police official. During interrogation, the Delhi engineer disclosed he had purchased a meat cleaver to kill his wife. He then strangled her to death and called up his brother before they chopped off the body into pieces and wrapped it in a piece of cloth and in a plastic rice sack.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, South East) Chinmoy Biswal said a police team found a bag and the carton at the spot. They also found a few grains of rice on her body, according to the HT. “We traced several rice traders from the vicinity as her body was wrapped in a rice sack,” Biswal said, adding that officers found a sticker on the carton with the name of a shipping company and a code.
Biswal said the shipping company’s executives told the police that the code on the carton was that of a delivery order. “It was found that the company had transported the household stuff of Javed Akhtar from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.” When police contacted Akhtar, he said he had taken a few cartons to his house in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, which he had rented out to Sajid Ali Ansari.
Visiting Shaheen Bagh, the police team found that Ansari had vacated the house and left the keys with a neighbor. They found the woman’s bloodstained clothes inside the house, reported The Times of India. Police then searched the house of Ansari’s brother, Hasmat, who lives in the same locality and arrested Sajid on Tuesday morning, Biswal said.
The DCP said that when a police team arrived at the Shaheen Bagh address, it was found that Sajid had already left the house. Following surveillance, a raid at his brother, Hasmat Ali’s residence, in the same locality, was conducted and Sajid was arrested on Tuesday morning,” Biswal said.
“Last Wednesday, following a heated argument, Sajid strangled her to death and then called up his brother Ishtiaq. Both of them then chopped off Juhi’s body into pieces and wrapped it in a piece of cloth and in a plastic rice sack. Then they called up Hasmat Ali, who arranged a Maruti Ertiga car in which the trio took Juhi’s body and threw it in the wooded area near Okhla,” Biswal added.
Police said frequent fights between the couple over their financial situation and suspicion of an extra-marital affair led to the woman’s murder.
