National Cinema Day on Friday, October 13, is observed throughout India. It has been announced by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and movie theatres nationwide that tickets will be available for as little as Rs 99. By making it easier to access films, the new effort honours the Multiplexes’ outstanding year so far.

Movie grovers can purchase movie tickets both offline and online. Those who are interested can purchase tickets via websites of the individual multiplexes or through services like BookMyShow and Paytm.

Further information regarding ticket and food and beverage promotions will be made available at the participating theatres, on their websites, and on social media.

All you have to do to reserve a ticket is choose Friday and the films you wish to see. It’s still not possible to purchase tickets for several foreign films on Fridays. Nonetheless, there are still some films that are accessible at a reduced cost, including well-known Indian films like Jawan, Mission Raniganj, and Thank You for Coming. The costs may differ according on taxes and fees levied by the multiplexes.

On National Cinema Day of last year, 6.5 million tickets were booked, breaking a record for the largest single-day total ever. More than 4000 screens will commemorate the event this year. Participating in this deal are renowned theatres such as PVR INOX, CINEPOLIS, MIRAJ, CITYPRIDE, ASIAN, MUKTA A2, MOVIE TIME, WAVE, M2K, DELITE, and many more.

The Multiplex Association of India offers an explanation for the new offer in an open letter. According to the letter, this special occasion celebrates the remarkable success of multiple films at the box office this year by bringing audiences of all ages together for a day of cinematic bliss. Veteran actor Mushtaq Khan, who appeared in several Hindi films and was particularly remembered for his role in the 2007 comedy Welcome, has died at the age of 56.

Khan was known for playing supporting characters across Hindi cinema and had worked in films spanning several decades. His role as Balu in Welcome remains among his best-known performances.

Mushtaq Khan’s film career

Mushtaq Khan appeared in a wide range of films during his career. His filmography included Aashiqui, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Gopi Kishan, Krantiveer, Raja, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Jodi No. 1 and Hera Pheri.

He also featured in more recent films including Stree 2, Gadar 2, Baby John, Dhoom Dhaam and Jaat. His filmography lists acting work continuing into 2026.

In Welcome, Khan played Balu, a supporting character in the comedy starring Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor and other prominent actors.

Khan’s career also included television work, with his credits spanning a wide range of acting roles over the years.

Mushtaq Khan dies at 56

The actor’s death was reported on September 24, 2026. Reports said Khan had been undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with liver cancer and had been hospitalised for around 15 days. Further details surrounding his death were awaited in the initial reports.

Mushtaq Khan was 56. IMDb lists his date of birth as December 31, 1969.

The newborn is the couple’s second daughter. Deepika and Ranveer became parents for the first time in September 2024, when they welcomed their daughter Dua.
