Maharashtra: Fire erupts in Pune’s Pimpri Chinchwad, 150 scrap shops gutted in blaze

A major fire broke out in a scrap godown in the Kudalwadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad of Pune in Maharashtra on Saturday early morning. More than 150 shops have been reported to be burnt.

Last year in December, a tragic incident took place in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad, now known as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, six workers died after a massive fire broke out inside a hand glove manufacturing company. The incident left many others injured. 

The injured were rushed to a hospital and were given treatment. The workers in the gloves manufacturing unit stated that the factory was closed at night and that they were sleeping when the fire broke out. During the time when the incident took place, nearly 10-15 people were trapped inside the building. 

Commenting on the fire accident, Waluj MIDC, Fire Officer Mohan Mungse said that they got the call at 2.15 am. He added that when they reached the spot, the entire factory was on fire and that the local people informed them that six people were trapped inside. He asserted that the six bodies have been recovered and extinguishing work is in progress. 

Reports stated that the locals have identified four of the trapped workers as Bhulla Shaikh (65), Kausar Shaikh (26), Iqbal Shaikh (26), and Magroof Shaikh (25).

In the first week of the same month last year, six people died and eight sustained injuries after a fire broke out at a sparkling candle manufacturing unit in the Pimpri Chinchwad area of Pune district.

Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh said that the fire brigade received a call about the blaze at the factory located at Talawade around 2.45 pm. He said that the factory manufactured sparkling candles which are generally used for birthday celebrations. The injured were admitted to hospitals in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area.
