Rishabh Pant suffered a brief injury scare during training in England but confirmed he’s doing fine. The incident comes ahead of a high-stakes five-Test series.

Rishabh Pant’s preparation for the upcoming Test series against England hit a brief roadblock after he was struck on his left arm during a training session. The incident occurred as India’s vice-captain took throwdowns and practiced against both spin and pace bowlers in England, where the five-match series begins on June 20.

During the session, Pant was seen grimacing in pain after being hit. Medical staff rushed to the scene with an ice pack, followed by a bandage. For about 30 minutes, Pant rested while team doctors monitored him closely. However, in a short response that calmed fans and team officials alike, Pant said: “All ok.”

A vital figure in a transitional team

Pant, India’s first-choice wicketkeeper and newly appointed vice-captain, is a central figure in the Test squad. Despite a subdued performance in the IPL 2025 — barring a lone century against Lucknow Super Giants — the team management remains confident in his ability to shift gears in the longer format.

This England tour comes at a significant time for Indian cricket, with senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin having retired. Mohammed Shami’s exclusion also marks a shift in team dynamics. With Shubman Gill leading the side, younger players and fresh combinations are set to be tested.

Experts emphasize adaptability

As India enters this phase of rebuilding, several former cricketers have shared their insights on what the team needs to succeed in English conditions.

Cheteshwar Pujara underlined the importance of unity and adaptability:

“Every player will need to contribute and respect the challenges that lay ahead. This tour will be a great opportunity for team growth.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, Ashish Nehra noted the difficulty and thrill of playing in England, stating that India’s bowlers bring “experience and stability” to the squad.

Irfan Pathan emphasized leadership and team synergy:

“Gill’s leadership, Pant’s energy, and young talent must step up. England tests swing, seam, and temperament — quick adaptability is the key.”

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also described the series as the possible beginning of “something special” for India.
