The grand premiere of Bigg Boss 19 turned deeply emotional as music composer and singer Amaal Mallik entered the house as the 16th and final contestant of the season. Making his debut on the reality show, Amaal candidly addressed his personal battles, including his struggles with depression and strained family ties.
Amaal Mallik’s emotional revelation
While interacting with host Salman Khan, Amaal reflected on a social media post that earlier created buzz. “I recently put up a post, and people wondered why I did that. Even mom and dad felt that,” he said. When Salman asked him directly, Amaal admitted in Hindi, “That I am depressed.”
The 34-year-old music composer shared that he wants to use the show as an opportunity to let fans know the “real Amaal Mallik” beyond headlines and controversies. “You’ve always taught me that I have to fight my own battles and create my own identity. At this age, I’ve become sober, but I wasn’t like this before. I feel that through this show, fans will get to know the real me,” he told Salman.
Recalling Salman’s support
During the premiere, Amaal also performed on stage and spoke warmly about Salman Khan’s support in the early phase of his career. “You helped me when I started my career in 2015, and now, after 10 years, I’m back again with you on Bigg Boss. So, I think you’re really lucky for me,” he said.

Amaal’s revelation connects back to his now-deleted Instagram post from March 2025, where he wrote about cutting ties with his brother Armaan Malik and the toll it took on his mental health. In that post, he shared how his self-worth had been diminished “countless times” by close relationships and admitted he was clinically depressed.
Single and seeking a fresh start
On the show, Amaal also confirmed that he is currently single. His candid confession during the premiere offered fans a closer look at his personal battles, marking an emotional start to his Bigg Boss 19 journey.
