With one more case of coronavirus reported in Ghaziabad on Thursday, the total number of positive cases in India has reached 30 so far. The latest patient is a middle-aged man with a recent travel history to Iran, officials said.
India had reported 29 cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19), after a man in Gurgaon tested positive when he returned from a vacation in Italy.
The caes are rising even as the government decided to screen all passengers entering the country from abroad for the lethal virus.
“The government is working intensively to ensure meaningful intervention, if needed, to deal with the impact of unfolding Covid-19 crisis in the country,” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
She said various ministries are working alongside each other to deal with the impact of the virus.
Worldwide, more than 94,000 people have tested positive and the virus has claimed over 3,200 lives.
The Gurgaon man is a Paytm employee prompting the company to shut its offices in Gurgaon and Noida for a couple of days to be sanitised.
The patient “is receiving appropriate treatment and we are extending complete support to his family”, a company spokesperson said.
“As a precautionary measure, we have suggested his team members to get health tests done immediately,” he added. “However, there will not be any impact on our daily operations and Paytm services will continue as usual.”
14 out of 21 Italian tourists in India were tested positive for coronavirus at ITBP quarantine in Delhi, confirmed Union health minister Harsh Vardhan. An Indian driver accompanying the group of Italian tourists has also been tested positive.

On evacuating stranded Indian students in Iran, Harsh Vardhan said “If Iran Govt supports our efforts, then we have an intention to establish a test lab there as well. This will let us bring back our citizens from Iran after a thorough screening”.
According to the health ministry, at least 25 people suspected of coronavirus have been admitted at Safdarjung hospital. Four suspected cases of Coronavirus are kept in isolation at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
As part of its preventive measures, the Ministry of Health has issued an advisory saying ‘help us help you’ and a helpline for speedy response. The Centre has also placed visa curbs on four countries as more countries are reporting rise in cases related to the deadly coronavirus.
Eleven people, including four foreigners, have been quarantined at a hospital in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged people not to panic over the coronavirus scare in India. In a series of tweet, he also urged Indians to work together and take “small yet important measures to ensure self-protection”.
Globally, there have been more than 92,800 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus. At least 3,100 people have died so far — majority of them in the People’s Republic of China. The number of cases have also steadily increased in Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea.
The World Bank has launched a 12 billion dollar aid package to fast-track funds to help countries combat the coronavirus outbreak. “The goal is to provide fast, effective action that responds to country needs,” World Bank President David Malpass said.
