Burt Bacharach, American pop composer, songwriter, pianist dies at 94

According to reports, Bacharach died of natural causes on Wednesday. The news about the composer’s death was shared by his publicist Tina Brausman.

Legendary American pop composer, songwriter and pianist, Burt Bacharach whose work was amongst the most listened to songs in the year 1960s has died at the age of 94. The composer of I sing a little prayer died in the USA’s Los Angeles.

Bacharach has worked and collaborated with the greatest stars the industry had ever given to the pop music industry namely Dionne Warkwick, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, and even Tom Jones.

According to reports, Bacharach died of natural causes on Wednesday. The news about the composer’s death was shared by his publicist Tina Brausman. His compositions and work of romantic, melancholic ballads transcended pop genre and touched upon jazz genre.

Bacharach also received many accolades during his stint as a composer which included being the recipient of three Oscars, An Emmy, Eight Grammy awards including the lifetime achievement prize. The composer was also the recipient of not one, but two Golden Globes.

The Emmy winning composer has been part of uncountable hits during his time as he composed and wrote 50 of the top 100 hits and nine number ones during the year 1960’s. His most notable songs include “Walk On By,” “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” and “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head”.

Bacharach was born on May 12, 1928 in USA’s Kansas City in Missouri and subsequently moved to New York in his developmental years. The composer found himself being lured to the works of Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker in his teen years for which Bacharach used to sneak himself into the clubs.

Bacharach also served in the army during the post World War 2 era, however, prior to joining the army, the pianist also studied music at several American universities.

The singer is survived by his wife Jane Hansen and together, the couple has two children.

Waheeda Rehman to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award

Anurag Thakur further noted that at the time when the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam has been passed by the Parliament, Waheeda Rehman being awarded with the lifetime achievement award is a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian Cinema.

Waheeda Rehman to be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to Indian Cinema

Indian actor Waheeda Rehman will be honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for her stellar contribution to Indian cinema. She is regarded as one of the finest actors of Indian cinema. The actor worked in more than 90 films, in a career spanning over five decades. Earlier, she was honoured with Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1972. She also received Padma Bhushan in 2011.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur announced that Waheeda Rehman is being bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award this year for her stellar contribution to Indian Cinema. He added that Waheeda Rehman has been critically acclaimed for her roles in Hindi films, prominently Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke Phool, Chaudhavi Ka Chand, Saheb Biwai Aur Ghulam, Guide, Khamoshi and several others. 

The Minister mentioned that the actor in her career spanning more than five decades has essayed her roles with extreme fitness, leading to a National Film Award for her role as a clanswoman in the film Reshma, Shera. He continued that Waheeda Rehman has exemplified dedication, commitment and the strength of Bharatiya Nari who can achieve the highest level of professional excellence with her hardwork.

Anurag Thakur further noted that at the time when the historic Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill) has been passed by the Parliament, Waheeda Rehman being awarded with the lifetime achievement award is a fitting tribute to one of the leading ladies of Indian Cinema. He added that the actor has dedicated her life after films to Philanthropy and the greater good of society.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the country’s highest award in the field of cinema. It is bestowed annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation which was established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The recipient is honoured for their remarkable contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.

Dharma Productions shares video for Alia Bhatt’s next film Jigra

Dharma Productions unveiled the video of Alia Bhatt’s next film Jigra. The film is directed by Vasan Bala. It is the story of a sister’s love for her brother. In the film Alia will do anything to protect her brother. The film is scheduled to be released on 27th September 2024.

The one minute video starts with a quote from GK Chesterton. The paradox of courage is that one must be a little careless of life to keep it. In the video Alia can be seen wearing trousers and shirt. She is carrying a bag and looks sombre. She is seen in a street where she is surrounded by neon lights and hoardings. It seems she is waiting for someone. In the voice over she is seen saying Dekh Mujhe meri rakhi pehenta hai na tu? Tu meri protection mein hai. Tujhey main kuch bhi hone nhi dungi.

Alia took to X (formerly twitter) and wrote from debuting in a Dharma production to producing a film with them. She said it felt as if coming in full circle from where she had started. She said every day is a different day challenging, exciting and a little scary. Jigra is produced by Alia Bhatt’s own production house Eternal Sunshine and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.

Other projects of Alia include Jee Le Zara with Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra. But the film is stuck because Priyanka’s schedule has been affected by the strike in Hollywood. Variety of comments started coming on social media where on one fan said Alia becoming a producer and doing collaboration with Dharma productions from where she started as an actor. He added Alia is continuously rising as an entrepreneur producer and an actor. One social media user said the video of the film looked as if a new masterpiece was there on the way.

Swara Bhasker, Fahad Ahmad blessed with a baby girl

Bollywood Actor Swara Bhasker and her husband Fahad Ahmed welcomed their first child, a baby girl. Swara gave birth to her little angel on September 23. Swara shared the name of the baby girl Raabiyaa. According to reports the Swara has kept the name of her daughter after the Sufi mystic Rabia Basri. She also shared a number of pics of the newborn.

One photograph shoes the proud parents with the little angel. The second picture shows Sara sweetly looking at her baby girl. Large number of fans, family and friends started wishing them on social media. Neena Gupta congratulated the couple. Swara had announced her pregnancy in the month of June.

She shared a number of photos flaunting her baby bump. Swara shared adorable photos with her husband. She wrote sometimes all your prayers are answered together. She said she was feeling excited, blessed and grateful as she stepped into a whole new world.
