Kananga Ranaut's Dhaakad Movie
Dhaakad was released on 2100 screens, but after the flop, it has been reduced to 250-300 screens.

Kangana Ranaut’s starrer Dhaakad is proving to be a complete and utter disaster since its release. While the majority of film theatres have already stopped broadcasting this action thriller, a few still do. But what comes as a shock is that, despite being the costliest female-led film in Hindi cinema, it has only earned Rs 4,420.

According to reports, only 20 people across India watched the film on Friday. The film which is also starring Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta has come among the biggest loss-makers of all time. By the weekend, the film’s performance had deteriorated to the point where the majority of theatres had to stop showing it on Monday.

Dhaakad reportedly cost between Rs 80 crore and Rs 90 crore to make, and now the producers are having trouble finding streaming distribution because they didn’t seal the partnerships before the film’s premiere. Dhaakad has grossed roughly Rs 3 crore in total, continuing Kangana’s lengthy run of box office failures.

After the fall of Dhaakad at the box office, the makers are now struggling to seek buyers for its OTT release, reportedly. By selling the rights to OTT platforms and television channels, the producers make a profit. In the case of Dhaakad, the filmmakers did not sell their rights before the film’s release in order to secure a favourable deal.

Unfortunately, no one is willing to buy those rights now because of the flopped results. After a disastrous box office performance, Dhaakad’s producers cannot expect big money from OTT and satellite distribution. Since Dhaakad is distributed by Zee Studios theatrically, the makers are trying to pitch Amazon Prime Video. However, the reports state that Zee might still come on board for the TV and digital premiere.

Dhaakad was released on 2100 screens, but after the flop, it has been reduced to 250-300 screens.
