Sikkim becomes latest Covid-free state after two years, here’s the list of Indian states with no Covid-19 cases

After a two-year coronavirus outbreak and three major Covid-19 waves, India is on its way to becoming a Covid-free country. The Health Department on Friday issued a notification confirming that Sikkim is the latest state to become Covid-free with the last two patients recovering from the viral contagious disease. The Health Ministry further said in the last 24 hours, the state did not report any new cases out of the 84 samples that were tested.

Sikkim has reported a total of 39,165 Covid-19 cases, with 37,966 recovering so far and 747 migrating out of the northeastern state. According to the ministry, the Covid-19 death toll has reached 452. On May 23, 2020, Sikkim announced its first Covid-19 case after a 25-year-old student returning from Delhi tested positive.

Sikkim is not the only state that is Covid-free. Here’s the list of states and Union Territories that have no Covid-19 cases.

Tripura has no Covid-19 cases. The state reported 1,00,887 total cases since the outbreak. Out of the total cases, 99,964 were recovered and 923 died due to the virus.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu is a Covid-free union territory. Total cases in the UT were 11,441 with 11,437 being recovered and 4 fatalities.

Lakshadweep also has no Covid cases. The UT reported a total of 11,402 cases since the pandemic, with 11,350 being recovered. The UT logged 52 fatalities in two years.

India reported 2,710 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of coronavirus cases to 4,31,47,530. According to the Health Ministry, the country also reported 14 more fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of Covid-related deaths to 5,24,539. Currently, there are 15,814 active cases in the country.

Covid-19: Delhi reports 2,202 cases, highest in six months; India logs over 20k cases

The coronavirus has started to raise its ugly head in the country once again. There is currently concern about the fourth wave in India, where the number of Covid-19 cases has been increasing continuously for more than a week.

India reported 20,551 new Covid-19 infections and 70 fatalities in the last 24 hours. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs, the daily positivity rate in the country reached 5.14 percent and the weekly positivity rate stood at 4.64 percent. The fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent, and the recovery rate stood at 98.50 percent.

India’s tally of Covid-19 cases has risen to 4,41,07,588 and the death toll has climbed to 5,26,600. The active Covid-19 cases in the country stood at 1,35,364.

The capital registered 2,202 cases, which is the highest in six months. The health department data shows the positivity rate in the capital reached 11.84 percent. On Wednesday, Delhi reported 2,073 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 11.64 percent. The active cases in Delhi are 6,175.

Maharashtra reported 1,862 cases and seven deaths. Assam logged 431 new cases and two fatalities and Odisha recorded 836 new cases. The five states with the most active cases are Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab.

In response to the rising number of Covid cases and low booster dose uptake throughout India, the Union Health Ministry has offered free booster doses to all eligible individuals over the age of 18 at government-run vaccination centers.

The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive was started in the country on 16 January 2021, since then 2,055,947,243 vaccine doses have been administered across India.
